Samson and Delilah: The Slaughter with a Jawbone of a Donkey

Dr. Phillip Clark
A. Samson went back to his father-in-laws house to visit his wife and found her with his wedding companion, his best-man. Samson got furious. and caught three hundred foxes. Samson took two foxes and tied their tails together and set the tails on fire. After he lit the tails together and set the tails on fire. After he lit the tails, he set the foxes loose into the corn fields, vineyards, and olive fields.

B. The Philistine inquired about who had done this. It was revealed Samson did it and why he did it. The Philistines ordered Samson's wife and her father to be burned.

C. Samson vowed revenge for the death of his wife and father-in-law. Samson attacked and killed some Philistines and stayed in a rock at Etam.

D. The Philistines pitched a tent in the land near Judah. The men of Judah asked, "Why are you pitched near our town?" The Philistine men responded, "We are looking for the destructive Samson, we want him as prisoner." When three thousand men of Judah appeared at the cave where Samson abode, they said unto him, "Samson we have come to turn you over to the Philistines." (Note: This would have been a one sided justified reason to turn Samson over to the Philistines for trial to prevent an act of war with the Philistines.

E. The men of Judah had two ropes to tie Samson with. Samson asked them if he surrendered would they promise not to slay him themselves. The men of Judah agreed.

F. The men of Judah handed Samson over to the Philistines and the Spirit of the LORD came upon Samson and the ropes loosed off Samson and fell off. Then Samson found an jawbone of an donkey and slay-ed a thousand men. Samson made a riddle of the jawbone of the donkey massacre and dropped the bone and named the place Ramah-Lehi. (Note: Ramah means "The Hill of the Jawbone."

G. After slaying a thousand men, Samson calls on the name of the LORD for a drink. For Samson was thirsty. Then the LORD opened a hole in the ground at Lehi and water sprang forth. He called the spring, "Enhakkore."
(Note: Enhakkore means, "The well of the anointed."

H. Samson judged Israel for twenty years. (Note: Twenty years of Samsonite leadership.)
