Cyber Sex Addiction

AmyBrowne
Cybersex is reaching epidemic portions and is now a recognized mental disorder. Millions around the world are now being coming addicted, when will this behavior stop? How did cybersex begin and who is at risk?

With the invention of the internet, it brought a host of good and bad as we all know and the accessibility of sexually oriented materials has exploded. One cannot only find plenty of pornography, and of course, toys, but anyone can find whole communities devoted to sex. When one gets enough people together to form a community about any topic they discuss the topic, and in this case, they discuss sex.

With sex being such an emotional thing, talking about it stimulates the brain and makes people feel good. One discussion led to another and soon people were thinking about having sex. People feel more willing to engage in sexual activities that they ordinarily would never consider when it comes to online chat rooms. Out of this desire, cybersex came about, and it shows no sign of letting up anytime soon.

What exactly is cybersex? It's accessing the porn sites, as well as forums and websites, which deal with aspects of sex and it is the actual sex masturbation where one allows others to watch it on a web cam. It can also be a messenger or chat room conversation where two or more people are discussing sexual acts. These chats discuss sex as if it were real and happening. It is hidden for anyone else who lives in the home or apartment.

Cyber-sex is becoming an epidemic itself, and it does have the potential to be fatal if the people involved make the risky decision to meet off the computer to have physical sex. Having sex with strangers on the computer is less risky than the physical act where one is exposed to sexually transmitted diseases. Recently, a few cases of people becoming so aroused when having cyber sex that they have expired have surfaced.

People who engage in these online sex relationships are at a very real risk of losing the relationships with spouse, family members, and friends. As the addiction to the dirty chat grows, it isolates the addict and consumes their lives. They usually see nothing wrong with their behavior and may even claim their innocent. However, when an addict chooses time over any thing other then their loved ones, we realize it is quite bad.

So who is at risk of becoming addicted to cyber sex and the underworld of the Internet? People who live alone, are sex when it comes to sex are at high risk. Those people who prefer to be online when ever possible are at risk. They put off activities with family and friends to spend time alone, and seem to always have an excuse to stay in. Work is often the excuse, yet work is not done.
