Daddy's Little Girl

From a Mom's Perspective

Carol Wilkins

I think you stole your Daddy's heart

The very first time he held you.

You were early and very small when your Daddy first kissed you.

I think you knew you had your Daddy's heart

Before shortly after you were two months old.

You cooed and smiled at him and loved to cuddle.

I knew you were your Daddy's girl

The first time you signed.

The word in your hands, lovingly signed, was "Daddy."

Even now, as you grow older,

I see you take your Daddy's hand.

You love him unreservedly and want to make him smile.

Sweet daughter of ours,

Let me share a little with you.

You know you have a wonderful Daddy and here are the reasons why:

He is loving and kind; firm and loyal.

He takes care of you and wants to see you succeed.

He is patient and godly; hardworking and fun.

He is the kind of man you should look for

When you are a woman grown.

Your Daddy set the bar very high- do not settle for anything less.

I know you have your Daddy's heart

Just look into his eyes when you hug him.

There is nothing he would not do, to keep you close to him.

Just a little note about the poem... I wrote this about my husband and daughter. She was born two months early and while I was confined to my hospital bed, my husband spent the first few days of her life taking care of her in the NICU. He and our daughter have a very special bond. I knew from the moment he saw her, he was meant to be the father of a little girl.

What a beautiful and touching poem. It sounds like father and daughter are both equally taken with each other! That's the way it's meant to be. :)
