Dad's Pregnant Too! combines humor, knowledgeable information, and commentaries by men and women, that have been through pregnancy, labor, and all the confusion in between. Reading the description of the varies types of pregnant women & expectant fathers is very entertaining, while also being extremely helpful. Here are a few examples :
Chapter 5 is about "The body of the pregnant woman." (like puberty all over again) In this chapter the author, Harlan Cohen, described the various body types a pregnant woman assumes.
- The body of the pregnant woman
- The big-breasted pregnant woman
- The vomiting pregnant woman
- The feeling fat pregnant woman
- The farting pregnant woman
- The hemorrhoidal leaky pregnant woman
And so on. The author, Harlan Cohen, really covers all the bases with what can possibly happen with an expectant father's partner. He does an excellent job at preparing a man for what lies ahead in the 40 weeks of pregnancy. If a father-to-be reads this book, he will be prepared for ANYTHING his partner will go through.
The book is very helpful in preparing a man for the emotional roller-coaster that he himself will go through during pregnancy. Women can also benefit from reading this book! As women, when we are pregnant, we focus just on what we are going through, but by reading this well written guide, it will help put the things that men go through into perspective. For example:
Chapter 4 is all about "The may faces of the expectant father." (Inside the male mind and body) This chapter discusses the various mind sets that an expectant father assumes.
- The in-awe expectant father
- The accident a**hole expectant father
- The scared expectant father
- The protective expectant father
- The not happy expectant father
- The adoptive expectant father
And so on. The author really goes in to detail about the different feelings a soon- to-be father may experience. Reading what other men go through, even sometimes feeling a bit of uncertainty and fear of becoming a father, can really be reassuring.
Of course, there is the typical information that all pregnancy books contain. Chapter 1 is all about The first few weeks, Chapter 2 covers what to expect at the doctor's office, Chapter 3 covers the baby's developments (with pictures!), and my favorite, Chapter 8, pregnant sex. (sorry, no pictures for that chapter!) There are a total of 13 different chapters, and everything you can imagine related to pregnancy, birth, delivery, and preparation are included. Dad's Pregnant Too! really is one of the most comprehensive pregnancy books I've seen, and is the ONLY pregnancy book that is directly written for men.
By far, one of the most humorous references in this book, is the author's reference to the Birthing Vagina (BV) versus the Sex Vagina (SV). I was laughing out loud while reading his description. And although I had never thought of it before, HE'S RIGHT! The Birthing Vagina (BV) does kind of take on it's own form, completely separate from the Sex Vagina (SV).
The author does a tremendous job of speaking to men in a caring, yet manly way. If only this book had been around when I was pregnant! Perhaps my husband would have been more prepared, and more helpful, during my pregnancy and delivery. Most men simply don't know how to help their pregnant partner, but this book will help them get there.
Dad's Pregnant Too! Is a fairly new book, published in 2008. You can find this book at most bookstores, or online. READ HERE about how you may be able to find this, and other books, absolutely FREE.

Post a CommentIt sounds like a great book. I don't like the title - I have to be honest there. However the contents sound very helpful. Thank goodness pregnancies are out of the question for us, now! We enjoyed the two we had.
I gotta read this. My husband should have read something like this almost 22 years ago when I was pregnant with my daughter. I was SICK. I remember going from the couch to work and back to the couch. I remember him standing there looking stupid saying" I don't have any clean underwear". It took every ounce of strength I had left not to claw his eyes out. I remember looking at him and saying, " turn them inside out"
This book is a great idea. Soon-to-be dads need to be prepared too!
