Wrigleyville restaurant D'Agostino's located at 1351 W. Addison Street held a fundraiser on Friday, December 10, 2010 to benefit DiGeorge Syndrome which is also known as 22q Deletion, and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The fundraiser was sponsored by The Ryan and Jenny Dempster Family Foundation. Ryan Dempster, of the Chicago Cubs, and his wife told those in attendance they would match the funds that were raised for 22q Deletion and donate them to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Dempster went on to say about Ron Santo, who for many years suffered with diabetes, "I was at his funeral trying to think of something I could do just to say 'thank you.'" He also said, "I just felt like it was the right thing to do. I spoke with my wife about it, and she said, 'We should match, whatever it is, and give it to JDRF.'"
