Daily Breakfast Service Helps Thousands

If you're looking for a way to give back to the community, check out the Inspiration Cafe, located at 4554 North Broadway Street in Chicago's Uptown neighborhood. I was never so tired, after working a breakfast shift there, but at the same time, I felt so exhilarated. Since breakfast is served at 7 a.m. during the week, and 8 a.m. on the weekends, you have to get there early to begin your prep work. When I volunteer there, I get up at 4:00 a.m., but once I'm there, I'm glad I did. The atmosphere and vibe in the place is phenomenal, and the clients are genuinely happy to see you.

The Inspiration Cafe is one of the most fun volunteer experiences that I've ever participated in. One of the best parts of the whole thing is that after you and your fellow volunteers prepare and serve the breakfast, the clients clean up!

Another thing that was so amazing is that most of the clients are really trying to make an effort to better themselves and get back on their feet. Inspiration Cafe and all the volunteers try to ensure that they continue on and provide them with tons of support. No matter how many times I've been there, whether it was for breakfast service or dinner service, I always had a good time.

The first time I went, I was a little intimated, because I didn't know where anything was nor was I familiar with the process, but the staff was so helpful and caring and they made me feel more at ease. Because the organizers are always so appreciative for your help, it makes you want to go back again and again. The kitchen is even on the level of a fancy commercial restaurant-type kitchen, which also makes it a pleasure to cook in.
