Daily Digestion

A Silly Look at Something We All Do

Badal Vabaji
It starts in the mouth with physical digestion.

Food is broken down with every tooth.

Mucus makes it easy for food to slide

Down the esophagus, that's the truth.

The word food is no longer used.

It's now called bolus; that's what I'm taught.

From the esophagus, bolus goes to the stomach.

It passes right through, or so I thought.

Chyme (replaces bolus) stays in the stomach

And undergoes chemical digestion.

Pepsin breaks the proteins,

Then chyme goes to the small intestine.

The small intestine finishes chemical digestion.

What's left to absorb goes into your body.

Undigested material goes to the large intestine

Where it prepares the waste, for you to go potty.

Like a family at a city train station,

The rectum holds the feces for a bit.

When the body's ready for defecation

You usually take a...

Few minutes to go to the bathroom

Feces leaves the anus,

The one big final drop.

Your body completes this everyday

And for years it will never stop.
