Bonehead Tip of the Day: So, now we are supposed to get along. Those last two years didn't happen.
The List: Tops in TV
1. "AFC Championship" - 54.9 million
2. "AFC Post Game" - 31.5 million
3. "American Idol (Wed)" - 26.2 million
4. "American Idol (Thurs)" - 22.9 million
5. "NCIS" - 21.1 million
Source: Nielsen.
Notes: Need we say more? No, but we will. Football continues a pace not seen for any TV shows for some time. In difficult times and priorities change a bit, as far as hunkering down, we go back and gather to watch shows, or simply stay home. These numbers remind me of those days gone by as "Mary Tyler Moore" and "Carol Burnett" graced the small screens. Then the must see times of the 1980s took over and "Cosby" and "Family Ties" were the shows we talked about around the water cooler. Even "NCIS" is seeing numbers climb and cable shows are seeing record numbers. It's not that there is all of a sudden better shows on, because there are not, it's just a nice trend. However, the reality trend and the nonsense like "Jersey Shore" has to stop being watched, please.
Bears/Packers: Please note this was an afternoon game, so WOW! Bears/Packers averages 51.9 million viewers. It peaked at around 60 million. However, Fox reports 80 million saw some of this game. HUGE. Share (of TVs turned on and tuned in): Chicago, 81 percent share; Milwaukee, 85 percent. Simply stunning.
Dr. Phil: Ted Williams left rehab against doctor's orders. You did not see us here get wrapped up in that feel good story. It felt like a "balloon boy" story from the outset.
Trivia: Pliny the Elder like to think about things and we listened and reported this over the years. As for polar bears, he thought when a little one was born the mother bear licked it to form the shape of a cub. I'll take Ron Santo back.
Closer: Those temperature monitors that can check a fever by putting a strip on your forehead could become a fashion trend. Hey, the breathe easy strips did. Oh, and so did those strips under the eyes.
