Daily Struggles

Everyone experiences struggles on a daily basis. Some struggles are as simple as a traffic jam on the way to work, while some are far more severe. Human beings may try to gather things together and try to hold on to the things that this life has to offer, while kittens may be trying to hold on to the clothes line that he is so gingerly dangling from. There are several indicators of the kitten's struggle including the expression on the kitten's face, the composure of the kitten's body, and the absence of anything supporting the kitten.

First, kittens typically have soft, innocent, and curious eyes. As with any baby, kittens usually carry a carefree and mundane expression. However, the kitten in the photo has a fearful, helpless expression. This kitten is looking down in despair and searching to find a safe way to resolve the predicament that he is currently in.

Secondly, animals instinctively extend their claws when they are threatened. The kitten in the photo has all of its claws fully extended. Two of the kitten's dainty legs are secure on the clothes line, the third is suspended in the air but fumbling for the line, the fourth leg is hanging with all hopes of reaching the line. The distinct curve in the kitten's body indicates the battle to regain balance. The kitten is at the mercy of gravity.

Thirdly, there is nothing in shown in the photo supporting or under the kitten. If the kitten were to fall from the line it is not shown how far or what the kitten will fall onto. The kitten's wide, helpless eyes are looking down, possibly at where he may be falling. The kitten can see what the photo doesn't show the observer and this could be the reason for the amount of distress shown by the kitten.

In conclusion, this kitten is in an extremely stressful situation. The extended claws, worried eyes, and the absence of support are all indicators that the kitten is stressed about his predicament. We have all had the feeling that we were barely hanging on before. This kittens struggle is a symbol of the struggles that we go through on a daily basis.
