The 2 products I chose were the Pantene Pro V Classic Style Total Control Gel, which I have already reviewed, and the Pantene Pro-V Medium-Thick Style Hair Style Hairspray Anti-Humidity. This is also maximum hold, and has numbers 1 through 4. The four is highlighted.
This past year I have probably tried 12 different hairsprays, but have always gone back to the White Rain hairspray, which only costs $1 in Super Wal-Mart.
I bought the Pantene hairspray a couple of weeks ago, and wanted to use it for a long period of time, before making a judgment on it.
It comes in a silver, green, and black can. The net weight is 11.5 ounce (327 g). It states on the front of the can that it "Locks out humidity for all day hold and adds shine."
So the first day I used it I had washed my hair. Once my hair was teased, I brushed the sides back, and pinned one side of my hair. I always have it up in a French twist. I then sprayed the right side of my hair to hold it. I then combed the left side, and twisted it round, and pinned the back in place. I sprayed that side too.
With the top of my hair I use a backcombing comb. After getting the height, I then use my fingers to keep some curl on the top, but get it to perfectly turn at the top of the French twist. I then got the can of Pantene Pro-V and held it 6 - 8 inches from my head, and gave it a good spray all over.
I waited a good 10 minutes for it to dry, and then I touched it. The spray was too light, so I gave it a second spray. I waited again, and this time my hair felt hard.
I went out and my hair stayed in place. That night I took down the back of my French twist to sleep. In the morning I comb each side of my hair, and put it back into the French twist. When I use White Rain hairspray I have no difficulty in doing this. With the Pantene Pro-V medium-thick hair style hairspray, I had a couple of really hard areas of hair, and I found it difficult to get the comb through them. In the end my hair came out fine.
Because it takes me one and a half hours to wash, condition, use gel, blow dry, curl my hair with the curling iron, tease it, and then place it in a French twist, I wash my hair every 4 to 5 days.
By the third and fourth days of using the Pantene hairspray, my hair was getting a huge build up, right at the bottom of the French twist. I tried to get it out by pulling my fingers through my hair, but that hurt. I ended up using my bristle hairbrush to get the lumps of hairspray out of my hair. Once done I washed my hair again, as I didn't want further build up on it.
I did give the Pantene Medium-Thick Hair Style Hairspray another chance. The first day that I used the hairspray it worked great. After that it just went downhill.
I now realize that it can't be used the way I need a hairspray. It is a good product for someone who wants to keep their hair in place for one day, and then brush it out. It did make my hair shine, and there was no frizz, so it did what Pantene had claimed.
Pantene state on the can:
"Pantene's maximum hold formula with one of our strongest polymers adds shine and keeps your finished style in place even in humid and windy conditions. Once your style is set it stays put from morning to night"
Yes it does do that.
Unfortunately this product isn't for me, but if you wash your hair everyday, or brush out your hair each night, and set in the morning, you will get good results from it.
