Dairyland's Rido's Isabel Prepares to Head South in Search of Greyhound Glory

Rido's Isabel and her handlers have big plans for the soon-to be, 3-year-old, 57-pound greyhound. The red female out of WWs Time Warp and Fuzzys Capitol has been nearly unbeatable at Dairyland Greyhound Park in Kenosha, Wisconsin since shipping in from Dubuque Greyhound Park in Iowa last November. She has won every one of her Dairyland adventures except for one, and the plan for Rido's Isabel is for her to head south to Palm Beach Kennel Club in Florida to compete in their upcoming Grand Classic this May.

Isabel was a top-notch sprinter over 550 yards while stationed at Dubuque, as she competed in 31 races there and came out on top in 13, with 6 place finishes. However, when she moved over to Dairyland, it quickly became apparent that Rido's Isabel had way too much class for the greyhounds kenneled at the Badger State oval. Right from the start she was a dominating presence, winning her first 11 times to post without being challenged by the locals. In those 11 consecutive triumphs was a pair of stakes win, the 2007 Au Revoir Stakes and then the subsequent Dairyland Inaugural the very next week.

In the Au Revoir, Isabel met up with some of the very best 550 yard runners that Dairyland had to offer, with such stalwarts as Ohboompowsuprise and BL Kiss This in the field. The result was a box-to-wire effort that saw Isabel in front by the first turn and holding a 3 length margin over the always dangerous Flying Connie all the way around the track. She toured the course in 30 seconds flat, just one of a handful of occasions that she has been that fast or quicker for the 550 yards.

In the 2008 Dairyland Inaugural, Isabel met up with upstart newcomer Speedy Petal among others on New Year's Day. She bolted to the front and won with ease, stopping the timer with a sizzling 29.81 second effort in her almost 5 length win. She followed that up with win number 11 of her skein before she finally lost, coming in fourth after a trouble-filled affair from the 4 box on January 12th. To prove that this was an aberration, Isabel dusted the field in her next trip around, and then won another with no sweat to make her record stand at 13 wins in 14 Dairyland starts.

Owned by Bob and Luetta Rider, Rido's Isabel will soon be on her way to the Sunshine State, escaping the brutal Wisconsin winter and prepping for the Grand Classic which is scheduled for some time in May. With ample time to adjust herself to the 545 yard Palm Beach Kennel Club sprint distance, she could be a factor in this competition, which was first run last year but is fast becoming a big event on the national stakes scene. If her speed translates well to the Palm Beach surface, don't be surprised if Rido's Isabel manages to make her way into the finals this spring. The upcoming weeks before the stakes begins will be key for her, as she now moves to a track that is much tougher than Dairyland, where despite her gender she was the equivalent of a man among boys.
