The economy again, has taken it's toll on a family. This is an all too familiar story in our nation today and this "tale", unfortunately involves a couple of adorable Yellow Labrador Retrievers. They aren't just 2 ordinary lab retrievers, their a mother and son duo, and to make things more complicated, the mother is totally blind.
Daisy and Duke were sent to an animal shelter in Nebraska when their former owners had their home foreclosed on and were no longer able to care for the duo. The Yellow Labrador duo were 2 days away from being euthanized, after having spent 3 months in the animal shelter. Fortunately they were able to make their way to Minnesota, via Secondhand Hounds, a Minnesota pet adoption agency, before they met their demise.
Daisy, the 10 year old mother of 6 year old Duke, is totally blind. Duke has actually become his mother's own guide dog and keeps a very tight leash on her. Duke doesn't let her get too far out of sight. He's always right there to guard and guide her, just as a seeing eye dog would help a blind or visually impaired individual. Since coming to Minnesota the duo has been working with a dog trainer, trying to help Daisy become more independent, but she still shadows Duke most of the time.
Daisy and Duke need a permanent home but needless to say that won't be an easy task. The Yellow Labrador Retrievers are always together, so whoever does decide to adopt them will need to have room for both of them, as well as the time to take care for these special dogs. They're a team and wherever one goes, the other will follow. They have been inseparable since Duke's birth and the intention is let them continue to be together.
Daisy and Duke are currently in foster care here in Minnesota and anyone who may be interested in adopting this duo can contact Secondhand Hounds.
