Create a flower planter with your Daisy Girl Scouts. You can use this project for earning petals on their uniforms. The Daisy flower planters work well with the green petal (use resources wisely), the rose petal (make the world a better place), or change the details of the project and use this for just about any of the 11 petals offered to Daisy Scouts.
Materials Needed
- Construction Paper
- Crayons
- Marker
- Stickers
- Glue
- Tape
- Tin Can
- Dirt
- Daisy Flower Seeds
Creating the Planter
- Have each girl bring in a soup or vegetable tin can from home. Anything that would normally be recycled or thrown away and can hold flowers will work. Styrofoam cups also work well for this project.
- Use your magic marker and write the name of each girl on the bottom of the planter.
- Let the girls choose what color construction paper they want to use for their flower planter and then cut them in half lengthwise. You should be able to use each piece of construction paper for 2 planters.
- The Daisy Girl Scouts will need help wrapping the construction paper around the tin can and taping it.
- After the construction paper is securely in place using tape let the Daisy Scouts decorate the planter with the stickers, crayons, glue, construction paper, or whatever else fun you end up bringing to the meeting.
- After the Daisy Girl Scouts get finished decorating their tin can planters fill them with dirt half way, place a bunch of daisy flower seeds in the planter, and then place about an inch more of dirt over the seeds in the can.
It is not recommended that you water the seeds right away. This will make a big mess. Talk to the girls about what flowers need to live and then remind them they will need to water the seeds themselves when they get home.
Have a great time with your little Daisy Girl Scouts making these fun and easy daisy flower planters.
