Dali Decals Help You Transform Your Room for Less!

Tired of Boring Walls? Try Dali Decals!

Suzanne Rose
When designing my baby's room, I had it in my head that I really wanted some kind of mural or painting on the wall. However, I'm not very artistic when it comes to that kind of thing, so instead I went shopping online for alternatives. I found Dali Decals and I loved the products on their website right away. Dali Decals allow you to transform your room with out a lot of work or money involved.

What are Dali Decals?
Dali Decals come in all shapes, sizes and colors, you can even get them custom made. When placed on the wall, they look almost like a mural or painting. Some people even think that I used stencils and paint to decorate my wall! It's really hard to tell the difference on first glace. The decals are best to compared to stickers, however they are much more than just a sticker. Dali Decals attach to the wall with an adhesive backing, but you don't have to worry about any gooey residue! The removable decals don't leave anything behind when peeled off the wall.

But do they look good?
I was sceptical about some of the decals I found at other websites because they just didn't look like they'd be very high quality. The reason I ultimately choose Dali Decals was because their decals actually looked like they were part of the wall - rather than just a sticker sitting on top of the wall. When rubbing a hand along the wall, the decals can be felt, but it's not super obvious just by looking. The final look is more realistic than some of the other decals that I've found on the web.

Are they durable?
Dali Decals are very durable based on my testing. Even rubbing my hand against them with a lot of force didn't cause them to rip or budge at all. To remove, I had to use my fingernails and even then it takes some real trying before I can get a good piece of it. This is good because I don't plan to remove them and didn't want my child to be able to easily remove them anytime soon.

The decals are removable but the website states they are not reusable because they won't retain their shape after being peeled off the wall. However when first putting them on, I needed to make adjustments various times and I was able to peel parts of the decal off and place it back on. I also tested with some of the sample letters they sent me. With time and patience, I was able to completely peel off these letters and replace them on the wall just fine - and they are still sticking just fine too! They warn you about them not being reusable because they do start to roll or curl up as you peel them off, but if you really wanted to move them - you probably could. You just have to be patient.

So what can I get?
There are various categories of Dali Decals including flowers, trees, space, animals and more. They also have a variety of quotes for people who want their wall to say something. In addition, decals can be custom designed just for you! I ordered a monogram decal of my daughter's name for above her crib. It came with a set of daisies to put around the name. In addition I ordered a 6 foot tall flowering tree. For each decal, the site allows you to choose any of their colors to customize it just for you and the ones I ordered allowed multiple color choices due to the multiple pieces involved.

How hard are they to put up?
My decals took me more time and patience than I expected to put up, but it was all worth it. Each decal comes attached to a transfer paper that is also sticky. To apply, stick the entire piece to the wall, smooth it all out with the included squeeje tool, then peel off the transfer paper. Sounds easy right? Well it is easy but you still need to have some patience. For one thing, I did find I had to be careful when peeling the paper backing off the decal because with some parts the decal would lift up off the transfer paper and start to tear if I wasn't careful. This isn't a quick slap on and peel off job.

When putting on the monogram and daisies, I spent a lot of time measuring so that the name would be properly centered over the crib. I didn't want to draw lines on my freshly painted wall, so I used painter's tape to mark my measurements. Once measured, it was easy and quick to put that one on the wall. Then I planned where the daisies would go using painter's tape to hold them up.

More time and patience was needed for the tree. Since it was 6 feet tall and 5 feet wide, I couldn't just slap it on the wall. The tree trunk and branches came in 4 separate pieces. The decals are designed to overlap each other so I didn't have any noticeable seams when complete. Since the branches had many small points, this one definitely took a lot of patience when peeling off the transfer paper. The 100+ flowers came in large sheets and had to be cut apart which was no big deal. I also planned where all the flowers would go on the tree as well as the birds and butterflies that came with it.

In the end I think I got a great effect from my flowering tree and felt it was easier and less time consuming than painting a mural on the wall. Plus, there are NO holes or residue left behind. If I decide to redo the room in 5 years, I can just peel all the decals off the wall and start with a clean slate. That is perhaps the best part.
