Driving through the city and admiring the holiday lights is one of my favorite Christmas activities. Stick a CD of your favorite Christmas carols in the CD player, and you've got a fun and festive holiday memory for the family.

In a city the size of Dallas there are many options for viewing holiday lights, but you'll want to find the best for the ultimate holiday experience. This articles lists four favorite holiday light displays and the times that they are open.

Dallas Heritage Village - Candlelight Celebration

The Candlelight Celebration at Dallas Heritage Village in Dallas is one of our family's favorites. On Saturday, December 8th, 2007, through Sunday, December 9th, you can experience a Christmas extravaganza at Dallas Heritage Village. This celebration is about more than just the decorations. Local choirs and other groups perform on a regular schedule. There is delicious food (we love the fudge) for everyone. For the kids, there's a tent full of games and crafts. Plus, everything happens against the backdrop of an old-fashioned town. Dallas Heritage Village is located at 1515 South Harwood St., Dallas, Texas, 75215. The Candlelight Celebration opens at 3:00 p.m. and closes at 9:00 p.m. (Get there early, the parking fills up fast.) Admission for this event is $10.00 for adults and $6.00 for kids.

Oak Highlands Estates Twelve Days of Christmas Display

If you're like me, you probably grew up singing the words of the popular Christmas carol, "The Twelve Days of Christmas." Like me, you probably also spent time as a child trying to imagine what "lords a leaping" and "maids a milking" looked like. This display will delight young old alike as the Oak Highlands Estates residents bring the beloved Christmas carol to life. You'll want to see this one after dark. The display is on Timberhollow Circle in Dallas, Texas, 75231. The display opens at sunset and closes at 9:00 p.m.

Kessler Park

It's not Christmas until you've seen the holiday lights on the five trees in Kessler Park, or so tradition holds. You'll want to spend some time in the Kessler Park area to catch the true Holiday spirit. The Kessler Park oak trees are located in the median at 1415 W. Colorado Blvd, Dallas, Texas, 75208. I recommend going before 8:00 p.m. for this one.

Highland Park Neighborhood

Are you a romantic? How does viewing the holiday lights by carriage strike you? Then you'll want to visit the light displays in Highland Park. Snuggle with your sweetie and let the carriage driver do the driving as you roll past the picturesque houses and neatly manicured lawns. You can hire the Threejays Carriage service from the Highland Park Village shopping center. Or you can hire the Party Animals Carriage service at Travis Walk. You'll want to do this tour after dark. Add a romantic meal and you've got the perfect Holiday date.

I hope that you've enjoyed this round-up of holiday lights, Dallas-style.
