Marcus Coleman an 11 year veteran of the NFL has probably run out of chances. Coleman was arrested for DWI around 2:30 am on Saturday. The Cowboys promptly released him. Marcus had already served a 4 game suspension this season for violating the NFL Substance Abuse Policy.
Coach Bill Parcels must have been tired of distractions after the Terrell Owens crap and the Quarterback Controversy this season. Even though Coleman is one of his "boys" from the old Jet days he cut him. I do wonder if a top flight player would be released for the same offense. I think not. Dallas has been known as a team who will cut a lesser player to try to make a point. They cut Running Back Curvin Richards a few years ago for a couple of fumbles. Emmitt Smith sure wouldn't have been cut for the same offense.
Coleman 32 came into the league as a corner with the Jets but played safety later in his career with the Texans and Cowboys. Coleman played in 3 games this season and had 1 tackle. In his career he has 25 Interceptions for 476 yards and 2 Touchdowns with 92 passes defensed. He also had 517 career tackles. He also caught a 45 yard touchdown pass for the Jets in 2000.
Let this be a lesson. Lesser players can be like this Cowboy Released for a DWI offense. But the better you are, the more chances you get.
