Dallas Cowboys Loss Means Wade Phillips Fired

The Dallas Vs. Philadelphia Dictates the Future of Wade Phillips in Dallas

A Dallas Cowboys loss on Saturday will mean Wade Phillips gets fired. The rumor was that Wade Phillips would be fired if the Cowboys didn't make the playoffs, but the talk was dialed down a tad when Dallas not only played strong at the end of the season, but ended up winning the NFC East title. The best game of the season for Dallas turned out to be their week 17 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, and that win gave Dallas the #3 seed in the NFC and a first round home game against Philadelphia. The work isn't done for Dallas or Wade Phillips, as they need to win on Saturday for Phillips to keep his job as the Cowboys head coach.

The rumors surrounding the future of Wade Phillips are nothing new, and it is not a surprise at all that there are more stories about the future of Wade Phillips coming up as the NFL Playoffs get under way. The major problem for Wade Phillips is that he has not found any real playoff success with these Dallas Cowboys, and owner Jerry Jones doesn't like that the Cowboys keep getting sent home early for their off-season vacations. An early exit from the 2010 NFL Playoffs would be the worst case scenario for both the Cowboys and Wade Phillips and it definitely puts a lot of pressure on Phillips to bring home a playoff win for his team.

Some might not find it fair that so much pressure is being put on the head coach, but what other way is there to measure the success of a head coach than by the way his teams perform in the "big games." Owner Jerry Jones has stated that he won't make a move until after the season, but that a decision about the future of Wade Phillips will come 24 to 48 hours after the final Cowboys game of the season. It sounds pretty ominous, and really shows that Jerry Jones is prepared to go in a different direction if the Cowboys don't beat the Eagles on Saturday. For Wade Phillips and the Dallas Cowboys, they have everything they could ask for, with a healthy team and the home field advantage, so now it is time to put the excuses out to pasture and perform to the best of their abilities Saturday night. Fail to do that, and it is going to get Wade Phillips fired.
