I have been a life-long Cowboy fan, and I have to admit the email was funny. The truth is the Dallas Cowboys should be the favorites to win the Super Bowl next year. If you sit and analyze the contenders for next year, it is clear the Cowboys will be the favorites.
The Cowboys sent thirteen players to the Pro Bowl in 2007-2008. The talent is there, but the ball hasn't rolled in their favor the past two seasons. As of late February 2008, the Cowboys have signed Zach Thomas (linebacker) who will help add depth to the defense and Jerry Jones is always looking to improve the team. The Cowboys also have two first round picks and will most likely pickup a receiver and another player who can help the secondary.
The 2007-2008 season was a very productive season for the Dallas Cowboys. The running game of Marion Barber and Julius Jones was very effective and the offense in general was one of the best. The Cowboys season could be measured by the success they had against the New York Giants whom won the Super Bowl. The Cowboys were able to easily handle them their first two meetings. The Green Bay Packers chances of success in 2008-2009 are still up in the air, because it's uncertain if Brett Favre will return. Without Favre the Packers chances are not good of winning the Super Bowl next year. The New England Patriots will be one of the favorites to win next year. However, Randy Moss is a free agent and he might opt-out for more money and join another team. I don't think the Patriots will go undefeated next season, because it's very difficult to go undefeated two regular seasons in a row.
Next year the Cowboys offense will be among the strongest again. As I mentioned earlier 13 Pro Bowlers will return and they have two first round picks (picks #22 and #28), which they will use to draft someone like Desean Jackson (WR California) or Mario Manningham (WR Michigan). If the Cowboys can get either of the wide receivers they will add to the crop of outstanding receivers on the current roster. Terrell Owens still has a couple years left in his prime and Terry Glenn should be healthy next year, however he's 34 years of age and I only see one productive year left in him. Patrick Crayton emerged this past year, however he wasn't consistent. I think next year he will more consistent, because he gained a lot of experience this year filling in for Terry Glenn. Sam Hurd and whomever they draft should make the Cowboys receiving crew one of the best in the NFL. Also, don't forget a guy named Jason Witten who caught 96 receptions for 1,145 yards and 7 touchdowns.
Antonio "Tony" Romo had an outstanding year in 2007-2008. Romo throw 335 completions for 4,211 yards and 36 touchdowns. Romo has been consistent the last 2 seasons and now with a full year of experience behind him, he should improve every aspect of his game next year. According to the Dallas Morning News, Jerry Jones made Jason Garrett the highest paid assistant coaches in the league. This was a key element in making the Cowboys Super Bowl champions next year. Garrett is the mastermind behind the Cowboys offense and he didn't do a bad job handling the offense in his first year. I can only imagine what schemes he will throw at defenses around the league next year. Also, he knows how to mentor Romo, because he was a former coach and a quarterback coach.
Rumors are the Cowboys could try and trade for players like wide receiver Roy Williams (Texas native and former longhorn) or sign Bernard Berrian, who is an unrestricted free-agent. Super Bowl XLIII (2008-2009 season) will be at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. I guess I better start making plans to be in Florida to see the Cowboys win their next Super Bowl.
