Dallas Star's Mike Modano and His Hockey Career

BS
Mike Modano is a very big name when it comes to professional hockey, and for very good reasons. Mike Modano was born in Livonia, Michigan on June 7, 1970, making him thirty-nine years old. Mike Modano is 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 210 pounds. Mike Modano is the current alternate captain of the Dallas Starts (former Captain) and plays center. Mike Modano's impressive hockey career begins in the 1985-1986 hockey season when he played for Detroit Compuware in the MNHL (Michigan National Hockey League).

Mike Modano only played with Detroit Compuware for one season before moving on to the WHL (Western Hockey League) to play with the Prince Albert Raiders. The WHL is one of three leagues that makes up the CHL (Canadian Hockey League), which is the best junior hockey league in the country. Mike Modano played with the Prince Albert Raiders for the 1986-1987 season, the 1987-1988 season, and the 1988-1989 season. At the age of 18, Mike Modano was drafted by the Minnesota North Stars in 1988, 1st overall. At the time he was drafted, there was only one other American hockey player that had been the first overall pick at the NHL Draft, now there are five.

In the 1989-1990 season, Mike Modano started his professional hockey career with the Minnesota North Stars and has been with the club ever since. In 1993, the Minnesota North Stars were relocated to Texas and became the Dallas Stars. Mike Modano is the only player on the Dallas Stars team who was part of the Minnesota North Stars. In 1999, Mike Modano and the Dallas Stars won the Stanley Cup and has been to the playoffs over ten times. The Dallas Stars are still Mike Modano's team. While in the NHL, Modano's skill has been rewarded many times. In 1990, he was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team. In 2000, Modano was named to the Second All-Star Team. He has also played in many NHL All-Star games (1993, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2009).

Mike Modano has also had a lot of experience playing for Team USA at international events. In 1988 and 1989, Mike Modano played in the World Junior Championship. In 1990, 1993, and 2005, Modano played for Team USA in the World Championships. In 1991, 1996, and 2004, he was played in the World Cup of Hockey, winning the silver in 1991 and the gold in 1996. Mike Modano was also a part of USA's Olympic Hockey team in 1998, 2002, and 2006, winning the silver in 2002.

Being drafted to the NHL over twenty years ago, it is not surprise that Mike Modano holds a few records. Modano holds the record for the most goals scored by an American player, which is 543. He also holds the records for most assists made by an American player (786). Combining these two would mean that Mike Modano also holds the record for most points scored by an American player (1329).
