Dallas Voters Take to the Polls Today to Determine Local and Statewide Issues

DALLAS, Tex. -- Today, Dallas voters will take to the polls to decide the fate of many local and statewide candidates and issues.

Dallas voters must decide if they still approve of the job incumbent District Attorney Craig Watkins is doing, or if it is time to move on and give his opponent, Danny Clancy, a chance to take over the position. The DA's race has been full of drama and accusations of criminal activity. Democrat Craig Watkins has been better known for the men he has helped get out of prison based on DNA evidence, than he is for the criminals he has put behind bars.

Republican Danny Clancy feels the Dallas County DA job is better suited for him; a former judge and prosecutor. Dallas voters will finally put an end to the Watkins vs. Clancy squabbling today. I feel Clancy is the better choice, however it is too close to call this race in Dallas.

Another hot button issue in Dallas is Prop 1 and Prop 2 which will determine whether Dallas will fully become a "wet" city or if it will stay part wet and part dry in regards to alcohol sales. As it stands now, you never know for sure if the grocery store you stop at in Dallas is one that is allowed to sell beer and wine or not. You also can't be sure if the bar or restaurant you are going to be drinking at will require you to fill out a "club membership" card so that they are allowed to serve you drinks. Hopefully today Dallas voters will make the city unified in its alcohol sales laws by passing Props 1 and 2. Dallas stands to increase their sales tax revenue anywhere from $11 million to $30 million if both propositions pass in today's election.

Dallas residents will be joining with the rest of the voters in the state to decide whether Governor Rick Perry will serve an unprecedented third term in office. His challenger is the former Mayor of Houston, Bill White. The attack ads have come hard and heavy from both candidates in the race. Perry will likely win this election as Texans tend to keep with the status quo. That's not a good thing for Texas. It is time for a new Governor and new ideas to move Texas forward and not keep trying to take it backwards. Though Dallas has become a slightly more Democratic than Republican area; Texas is still clinging to the red state title it wears proudly.

Regardless of who is elected and which new laws pass, Dallas voters need to turn out to the polls today and vote. Make your voice heard by exerting your right as an American to cast your vote. If you don't vote, don't complain about how this election turns out.
