Dallas World Aquarium Review

David Funk
The Dallas World Aquarium was my final stop on my October vacation before flying home later that day. It was a very pleasant experience to visit the rain forest-type atmosphere. The wildlife come from all over the world, and you never know what will fly by you when you visit. It was a good way to end the vacation.

As I walked into the aquarium, you could see penguins at the entrance. They are colorful as are the rest of the wildlife there.

I was amazed when looking at the polka-dotted stingray because that is the first I've seen of those in person. I liked the aracari as well as the three-toed sloth, although it was sleeping when I went to take pictures of it.

One funny thing happened when a group in front of me as well as myself were wondering why the two crocodiles in a cove didn't eat the fish. As it turned out, those fish were red-bellied piranhas, so that answered our question.

My favorite looking animals at the aquarium were the flamingos because of how colorful they are. Also, you'll always see them in bunches and they make distinct sounds, so you know when you come across some.

My review:

The bad: It is in downtown Dallas, so it can be difficult to reach. Parking can be confusing at times. Also, I encountered scam artists who will try to take your money. Take my advice and make sure you pay at the automated parking meter or they WILL tow your car. They are only open 10am-5pm.

The good: It is one of the most colorful places you will find. There's an abundance of not only wildlife, but also plenty of forest that makes the views very desirable. They've also got three restaurants for your convenience to eat at: Jungle Cafe, eighteen-O-one, and Cafe Maya. Though they have limited hours, they are the same as they are open daily.

Overall: It is about $20 with tax for adults, but you'll quickly see why when you visit. Despite limited hours, it is very worthwhile for anyone that loves animals, wildlife, and looking at rare and endangered species. If you come to Dallas, do make this one of your stops. I'm glad this was my last stop before flying home.

Dallas World Aquarium opened to the public in 1992. The warehouse they use was originally built in 1924, and was occupied by Mohawk Rubber Company and Pioneer Steel Rule amongst other companies before.
