It seems to be another rather ho-hum week for special movie events in the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas area. We have a couple Retro screenings, a children's screening to talk about, and that is about it. It seems like after 30 days of over 100 degree temperatures the multiplex managers have decided nobody even wants to go from their cars to the theater and then back to their cars. They apparently think people have just given up on even leaving the house.
Thursday, August 11
The Movie Tavern's all around the DFW area are doing Retro Cinema screenings of everybody's favorite time travel film, "Back to the Future." Thursday, August 11 screenings start at 9:00 p.m. and Friday, August 12 and Saturday, August 13 screenings are at midnight.
Although it should need no introduction, "Back to the Future" is the story of a young 1980s teen that ends up stranded in the 1950s. While there, he accidentally alters the future and must find a way to change things back to normal and then get back to his own time. Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, and Crispin Glover star. Robert Zemeckis directed and Steven Spielberg produced this monumental moment in film history.
Friday, August 12
Dallas Observer and Premier Video are presenting the creature feature "Tremors" as part of the Inwood Theatre's Midnight Madness screenings. Screenings are at midnight on Friday, August 12 and Saturday, August 13.
Although it was put out in 1990, it is safe to say that "Tremors" was definitely written, produced, directed, and conceived in the 1980s. Ron Underwood who gave us a little gem by the name of "The Adventures of Pluto Nash" as well as "City Slickers" directed this.
"Tremors" revolves around "Two country handymen [who] discover that their desolate town of Perfection, Nevada is infested with gigantic man-eating wormlike creatures that live below ground. The slightest vibration caused by movement attracts the creatures to attack without warning, exploding out of the ground with jaws opened to swallow with deadly precision." The movie stars Kevin Bacon, Fred Ward, Finn Carter, Michael Gross, and Reba McEntire.
