Dan Patrick - Radio Personality

D'Angelou
The problem with some radio personalities is that they simply overstate things. Because they are on the radio and are looking to acquire new listeners, radio personalities tend to say outrageous things just for the sake of saying something outrageous. It seems as if all of the radio personalities are in a competition to see who the king of hyperbole is. However, Dan Patrick is not looking to say stupid things just for the sake of saying them. When Dan says something, sure it's probably sarcasm and derision, but that's just how he keeps things interesting. He's not going to say something just to generate ratings, he's there to keep you informed and shine a different light on popular subjects.

You all know Dan Patrick from ESPN's Sportscenter and some of his aggressive interviewing techniques where he is really held back and reserved. Well, the powers that be don't seem to demonstrate any control over him on his radio show, because there, he is one of the most free-flowing characters in radio. Dan not only says what's on his mind, but he shares some of the most interesting perspectives from across the nation with you. From callers, to e-mailers to special guests, Dan Patrick covers the entire spectrum on just about every sports topic he discusses on his radio show.

Dan is a very complicated man. When he covers a hot topic, he approaches it in his usual calm manner. With his "you see, when I look at it," Dan ponders everything from an issue's deepest roots to its superficial covering. He's like an on-air scientist, dissecting every topic from top to bottom with a fine-toothed comb. And he will always bring that extra element to every topic. Because after he has all of the facts on a subject and has shared them with his listeners, he just has to give his twisted, sarcastic point of view. It's nothing hyperbolic, outrageous or stupid. It's usually a statement that encompasses all of the facts and puts them in the court of general public opinion. Like when he discussed the popular Kim Etheregde and her notorious "25 million reasons" statement, Dan not only discussed the facts, but he offered up the opinion that maybe Kim was referring to the number of reasons she should not be a publicist.

Dan Patrick is also an extremely precise journalist who refuses to take no for an answer. Dan pretty much gets on the nerves of his interviewees to the point where they usually become relatively angry. But Dan doesn't let up, and he asks the tough questions. And when people try to answer him with some bogus response, he just stays on the attack until they cave or hang up. He has annoyed a lot of people with his interviewing tactics and I'm sure there are quite a few who of them who will no longer speak on his show. In fact, I don't know how he manages to keep people coming on his show at all, but he does.

If you like alternative opinions and intense interviewing techniques, then tune into ESPN Radio, either online or on your local ESPN station, and enjoy Dan Patrick's antics and exploits.

Your article angers me because the things you noted seem to be totally true...the people who hired Dan Patrick at ESPN look like they are being take hostage by the "talent" they hire. Talent is a funny word to use when referring to Dan Patrick who is seriously demented and should not be allowed to do the material he does on day time radio...he shouldn't be allowed to do his provocative and pornographic material on ANY public air ways. Does the FCC ever release the comments people make about the likes of Dan Patrick. If they did release the comments about Dan Patrick there would be eyes wide opened by the collection of observations about his show. People are OUTRAGED!
