Dana Jacobson Vs. Kelly Tilghman: Who's Worse?
"F...Notre Dame,

Believe me folks she wasn't even nice enough to just say "F," she said the whole word, but this is a family friendly article and you will just have to use your imaginations.
In the wake of these comments coming to light, ESPN has suspended Jacobson for one-week.
This leads many people to think of the wonderful example Kelly Tilghman set on the Golf Channel. Tilghman said that other players should "take (Tiger Woods) out in an alley and lynch him," when her and her co-host were talking about other golfers ganging up on Tiger Woods because he is too good.
Many will now wonder which comments would be worse. I think that this is no contest. No matter what either on said, Kelly Tilghman said what she had to say on live television. There is absolutely no excuse for that. At least Dana Jacobson had had too much to drink, Tilghman should have been in the right frame of mind.
Also, Jacobson might not have realized that video of her would hit the internet and this would be a big story (although that's hard to believe, we've all seen the Tom Cruise video). After all this was supposed to be a private event. Saying her comments on live television makes Kelly Tilghman a worse offender than Jacobson in my mind.
Now to what they said. At least Kelly Tilghman offended people who are on the earth as we speak. Sure, Dana Jacobson probably offended Christians and, of course, Notre Dame fans, but making a comment about lynching an African-American man is much more of an offense. If Dana Jacobson's comments were really that offensive to the person they were about, she will pay in the end.
Sorry Christians and Notre Dame fans, but Kelly Tilghman's comments were worse.

Post a CommentI think that Kelly Tilghman is much worse than Dana Jacobson because I personally find absolutely Nothing wrong with Dana Jacobson at all/one bit so she couldn't possibly be worse than Kelly Tilghman.
Both are pretty bad.
Dana Jacobs comments were offensive and no doubt meant to be offensive. Tilghman's, while she said she meant no offense, could literally be interpeted to incite violence and hate though. Jacobs expressed a reprehensible opinion (BTW Catholics don't think God guides Notre Dame football - there are plenty of other Catholic colleges and He wouldn't choose a favorite) in a small public forum, Tilghman issued an unwitting call to take up past horrors. And as you said - she did it on TV in her job as a sportscaster. That's worse.
I know I am just picking out a particular part of the article. But I just want to point out that both are wrong under all circumstances. The writer asserted the claim that at least one was of people who are living. Many African American lost the lives to lynching which was one of the most henous atrocities committed by groups of people in the world. It should not matter whether the defamed is alive or dead offensive is offensive period!
So, Jacobson gets a bye for tossing back a bottle of Belvedere and insulting Christians? Did you also defend Jimmy "The Greek" when he tossed a few back and made his outrageous comments that deservedly drove him from the public eye. By most accounts, her comments qualify as "hate speech" - just replace the word Jesus with any other religious prophet or minority leader. Does anyone think she'd have a job longer than her hangover if she had maligned Dr. King or Caesar Chavez? If she had instead used Mohammed in her rant, ESPN would find itself at the epicenter of the latest fatah by Islam. But what about her responsibility as a professional commentator? How about firing for conduct unbecoming of an ESPN representative? Or better yet, for showing how ugly she is inside and, inspite of her lame apologies, her ignorance and lack of class. Way to go, ESPN! You've got a real talent in Jacobson!
Anti-Christianity and in particular anti-Cathoicism are the last acceptable forms of bigotry. If the Slavic and Catholic Mike Golic ever said anything untoward about jews, he would be fired in a minute.
