Dana Wharf Sport Fishing and Whale Watching in Dana Point
Celebrating Forty Years at 2011 Dana Point Festival of Whales
Humpback Whales, Killer Whales, Minke Whales, and Blue Whales all migrate during the spring to late fall along this part of the Pacific.
Gray Whales migrate through Southern California's Dana Harbor area during the winter months, swimming south to the coast of Baja where they will eventually mate. The long journey from the icy waters of the Arctic down to the warm Baja region is a yearly trek for these great giants.
While many people visit this part of California during summer, winter and early spring can be perfect for a whale watching cruise. The weather is often in the high 60s to 70s with clear, sunny skies.
The Southern California Coast is typically foggy and cold during many early summer days-in fact, locals refer to it as "June gloom". The late winter and early spring can bring some of the clearest days of the year, making for perfect whale watch conditions. Along with the whales, there are many other ocean inhabitants to see on your whale watching tour.
The warm Pacific waters out of Dana Point Harbor are rich with a wide array of sea life. Here you can often see pods of dolphins playing alongside boats as they head out to deeper waters off the coast. Harbor seal colonies are also prevalent in local rookery beaches where they come to birth during the late winter and early spring months. Wide variety of fish, sharks, and Moon and Pelagia Jellyfish are also in these waters. You may even spot elephant seals as they rise to the surface before diving down again into the depths to feed.
If you plan to visit during March 2011, Dana Wharf Whale Watching is participating in the 40th annual Dana Point Festival of Whales--one of Southern California's "largest seafaring celebrations" reaching out to "whale admirers around the world. Dana Point is teeming with festivities every winter during this special time of year, offering something for everyone. The Festival draws over 100,000 visitors each year," according to Penny Elia, of Dana Point Festival of Whales. During the festival, "take advantage of our $8 at 8am special! This 2-hour whale watching cruise will be the first cruise of the day searching for Gray Whales, dolphin, and other exciting marine life," according to Dana Wharf Whale Watching.
No matter when you plan a visit to Dana Point Harbor for Whale Watching, "Captain Larry" and all the crew members of the Dana Wharf Sport Fishing and Whale Watching Company will offer you first class service making your trip a memorable experience.
