In the past the idea of trying to dance to fitness would have made sense to me, but there is no way that I would have considered as suitable for myself. If you told me about someone my age who was dancing alone in his room then I would have thought him to be eccentric to say the least. I did like dancing when I was younger, but not girly dancing. I enjoyed moshing to indie or grunge music; I didn't even like to think of it as dancing. I must admit though that this thrashing around to loud music certainly felt like great exercise; despite many bad habits this is probably what kept me fit through my late teens and twenties.
I have been finding myself feeling a bit stale in regards to my regular exercise. Up until the beginning of this year I had really let myself go. It took me a few months to get back into shape, but now my weight is where I like it to be and I feel physically in bad shape. I am determined to never allow myself fall back to my less-active days; there are just too many benefits to be had by being healthy. I started to dance to fitness a few weeks back. I was just messing around with my two year old; the two of us just dancing to some songs. I realized after a while that I was working up quite a sweat and felt out of breath. I tried it the next day alone in my room in the form of a fitness workout, the music loud, and the room door jammed shut. I felt self-conscious at first, but soon got into it. Now, I don't feel uncomfortable at all, but I still lock the door.
It seems likely that I will continue to dance to fitness. It is just too good an aerobic activity to ignore. I have now made dancing with my son in the evenings a regular event, I don't seem to mind been seen dancing so much if my son is with me; I can say that I'm just playing with him. My two-year old loves it, but I have learnt that he is still a bit young for moshing. I would recommend this as an enjoyable fitness workout that seems to get every part of the body moving.
