Casual Costumes
While it's possible to buy a wide variety of expensive costumes, sometime a simple, casual look works best: consider blue jeans and white t-shirts. Dancers could wear white tennis shoes or socks, if your style of dance includes these. Another casual idea is to have your dancers wear all black. Black pants and shirts of any style blend well together. Add a splash of color to the outfit with a brightly colored scarf for the dancer's neck or to wrap around her waist.
Dance Dresses
Praise teams and worship teams sometimes wear dance dresses, which are made of loose, flowing material that help accentuate the dancer's movements. These special dresses are sometimes called body wrappers--they cover the whole body except the hands and feet. They are most often pullover style and have elastic waists to make it easy to dance. The edges of the dress can be cut in a handkerchief style or just a straight hem. Sometimes layers are added made of bright complementary materials. An ideas for dance dress costumes are flame designs made of bold bright colors like red, yellow and orange. Dance dresses could have short fluttery sleeves with fitted waists to inspire more ballerina-style movement.
Men's Dance Wear
Male dancers most often wear loose, baggy clothing. This gives them the freedom to move and dance. Shirts can be any color including black, and often have pleats on the front. Shirts can be urban style, loose and baggy with lots of room for expression and movement. Or for praise teams more flowing with billowing sleeves. Male praise dancers can also wear sashes that are tied to one side of their bodies. Sashes should be long enough to be flowing but not to get caught up.
Children's Costumes
Dance team costumes for children can be colorful and creative. Little girls can wear leotards covered with tiered skirts or dancing pants. Capes with angel wing-style arms make lovely garments for children to dance in. Dresses with ruffled tiered skirts and ruffled shirt sleeves are also popular.
