Dance Your Way to a Slimmer You

So you need to lose a few pounds. Well, maybe you have to lose more than a few pounds. Okay. Let's just face it. You're overweight. So what do you do? Do you head to the nearest gym and buy an expensive membership that you will probably never use? Do you order the hefty piece of exercise equipment you saw on an informercial last night--the piece of equipment that will eventually serve as a handy place to hang your dirty clothes? Or do you find your way to the local dance studio? Yes, you heard me right. I said the dance studio!

Countless people have danced their way to a slimmer, healthier body by taking dance classes. Whether the class is ballroom, ballet, tap, jazz, belly dancing, flamenco, or some other kind of movement, dancing is one of the world's best forms of exercise. Just look at the bodies of dancers. A dancer's body is strong, lean, and elegant. How did she get that way? By dancing, of course!

Moving to beautiful music while concentrating on intricate steps helps people relieve stress, express themselves artistically, and lose weight at the same time. You only have to watch the popular show Dancing With the Stars to notice that dancing creates beautiful, slim bodies. In fact, according to the web site healthstatus.com, 30 minutes of fast ballroom dancing can burn 182 calories on a 145-pound person.

Wait a minute! Before you decide to hightail it to the nearest dance studio, decide what type of dance suits your personality. Some prefer the rigorous study of ballet. Others might prefer a hip-shaking salsa class. Still others might get their jollies dancing to the hottest tunes in a hip-hop class.

Whatever dance you choose to pursue, you will find yourself having so much fun, you won't even realize you're exercising. And when you find yourself slipping into those pants that didn't even slide past your hips a month ago, you will decide to stick with dancing. So forget about sweating in front of your television as a skinny girl in leotards orders you to do 10 more squats while holding dumbbells in either hand. And forget about running on that treadmill that leads to nowhere. Join the thousands of people who are heading towards their neighborhood dance studio, and dance your way to a whole new you!
