Dancing Horses Holiday Show in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin

The Power of a Dream a Delight

Christine Bude Nyholm
The Dancing Horses Holiday Show in the Lake Geneva area of southern Wisconsin is an extravaganza of magical entertainment that delights people of all ages. The show, held in a comfortable inside ring, is within driving distance for people in the Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin areas. Kids and adults alike enjoy the fanciful Holiday show of music and lights.

We recently went to the Dancing Horses Holiday Show and found it to be delightful. Dancing Horses Theatre is located in Delavan, just west of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. As we entered the small complex of buildings, we were greeted by Prancer the reindeer who is part of the Christmas Holiday Show, 'The Power of a Dream.'

The performance is held in an indoor ring, with three tiers of seating on three sides. We arrived early and got an excellent front row seat, but looking around, it appeared that every seat afforded a great view of the action in the ring. We could immediately tell that the show would be something special, just by looking at the holiday decorations and the ring itself. There were impressions of dancing horses on the walls and a ring of dancing horses on the ceiling.

About a half hour before the performance, two ponies were brought out for pony rides, which people could buy tickets for. There were no takers in the older audience that day, but this is a wonderful opportunity for kids to get into the spirit of the day by starting out with a ride on a live pony.

The owner of Dancing Horses Theatre, Dana Montana, introduced the show by telling a bit of her own history and her childhood dream of owning horses. Montana, who dreamed of owning Arabian Horses and now owns 50 Arabians, said that parents should never discount the power of childhood dreams. Encouraging children to dream may be the best holiday gift a parent can give their children.

The lights dimmed and the extravaganza started. The Dancing Horses Theatre is described as part Las Vegas and part Disney, and I felt that description was accurate. There were about 12 different segments, with beautiful horses as they danced along with skilled performers dressed in fanciful costumes. Each segment was distinct, with music and costuming designed to evoke childhood memories. The Lighted Horses routine was a crowd pleaser, with the horses decked out in lights that truly brought Las Vegas to Lake Geneva.

There was also a delightful light show, with colored lights on fountains of water, which brought exclamations of delight from the audience.

The performance took about 90 minutes. After the show was over the horses were ridden into the rink so guests could pet the horses and talk to the riders. Guests were invited to attend the exotic bird show, which took place after the Dancing Horses Show.

Performances are on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM. Tickets are $25 for adults and $12.50 for children. There were also tickets that included dinner for $49.95. Reservations are required. Call 262-728-8200 for reservations and information.
