Dancing with the Stars 2009 Week 6 Recap: Jitterbug and Mambo Marathon Energize the Night

Dancing With the Stars 2009 week 6 proved to be one of the most entertaining episodes of the season thus far - despite the fact that no 10s were handed out by the judges. Not only did the nine remaining contestants have to perform their own individual routines but they also were compelled to compete in an exciting mambo marathon at the end of the evening. For their individual routines, the couples performed either a waltz or the jitterbug. Here is a brief recap of Dancing With the Stars 2009 week 6:

Joanna Krupa and Derek Hough - Derek was out with the flu last week but clearly he's made a full recovery for his moves during the couples' waltz were graceful and elegant. And kudos to Joanna for nailing what was a difficult dance for her. Bruno aptly described the performance as "gleaming, beautiful, weightless." Score: 36

Mya and Dmitry Chaplin - This was certainly an adequate performance but Mya seemed to lack energy and commitment (and the fact that it took way too long for the couple to actually start the routine didn't help matters). Score: 33.

Aaron Carter and Karina Smirnoff - I love me some Aaron Carter and the kid essayed and excellent waltz. The normally hard-to-please Len Goodman said it was Aaron's best dance of the season. I hope the fans will agree and keep the passionate and committed Aaron Carter in the running. Score: 33.

Donny Osmond and Kym Johnson - How about all that energy pouring out of Donny Osmond while he and his pro partner Kym Johnson danced the jitterbug! Sure, the railroad/choo-choo theme was a little corny but it suits Donny's straight-as-an-arrow reputation. Score: 31.

Mark Decascos and Lacey Schwimmer - I was very, very impressed with Mark's work on this high-energy jitterbug. How about those back flips and splits, peeps? Not too shabby, eh? Len Goodman was absolutely, 100% correct when he said, "Sometimes less is more-but not in the jitterbug. More is more." Score: 32.

Kelly Osbourne and Louis van Amstel - I must confess that this was one of my least favorite performances from Kelly this season. Her performance lacked vitality and spunk. I think she may be in trouble. Score: 25.

Melissa Joan Hart and Mark Ballas - I'm a big fan, but I'm afraid Melissa's waltz was representative of most of her work on DWTS thus far: mediocre. Like Kelly Osbourne, the pretty and perky actress may be in danger of getting the boot. Score: 24.

Louie Vito and Chelsie Hightower - In my view, this was Louie Vito's best performance of the season. He actually moved around for a change. Chelsie and Louie are rumored to be involved and it looks like the ridiculously cute blonde finally inspired the diminutive snowboarder. Score: 24.

Michael Irvin and Anna Demidova - Michael's waltz was actually quite good and, due to his fervent fans, the man with the ever-present smile will probably remain in the competition a little while longer (even though he's clearly one of - if not the worst dancers on DWTS this season). Score: 22.

Mamba Marathon:

The rules for the competition: all the couples dance at the same time. If you get tapped on the shoulder, you're history. The first couple to get tapped out receives 2 points, the second 3 points, and on and on until the last couple standing, who receive 10 points. The winners of the competition were Joanna and Derek, followed by Mya and Dmitry, Aaron and Karina, Donny and Kym, Mark and Lacey, Kelly and Louis, Melissa and Mark, Louie and Chelsie and Michael and Anna.

Tuesday night's show will feature a double elimination. The couple with the lowest score will go home as usual, but then the next two lowest-scoring couples will be required to compete in a dance off. The judges will decide their fate.

It should be interesting.

Last night was strange. Lyn was happy but Carrie Ann and Bruno were grumpy.

I could not agree with you more Elena!

Why do the judges decide their scors on what they expect rather than what the dancers dance? Mya dances better than anyone, but, because they expect more they score her less?????
