Dancing with the Stars 2010 Season 11 Week 4 Acoustic Week Recap & Scores

The Situation & Bristol Palin Flounder, Jennifer Grey Dances Back to the Top

Tamara McRill
2010 Dancing with the Stars Week 4 presented the show's first-ever Acoustic Week. A small round elevated stage, raised 30 inches off of the floor, put footwork on display. The dances were the Argentine Tango and the Rumba. This week on DWTS also presented the first double scores of the season. The stars were judged on technique and performance.

Kurt Warner & Anna Trubanskaya

Kurt and Anna are the first pair take the DWTS Acoustic Week stage (after the pro dance). Difficulty in practice connecting with a partner that isn't their spouse, so they brought the hubby and wife to practice. Warner's wife prodded him to remember their dating days, when the quarterback apparently had difficulty committing to one woman.

Kurt and Anna danced the Rumba to "Drops of Jupiter"--Kurt in an undone bow tie, sans jacket. Len liked Warner's hips, but not his pivots. Bruno has issues with his hands. Carrie Ann loved the performance and saw trust and intimacy in the dance. She did agree with the arms issues.

Scores: Technique 15/30, Performance 19/30, Total 34/60

Brandy & Maksim Chemerkovskiy

Brandy and Maksim also danced the Rumba, but to "A Woman's Work." After six years without love, Brandy isn't feeling very sexy. Her partner takes her on a romantic dinner, but Brandy critiques his presentation.

Brandy started the dance lying on the floor in an exquisite ethereal white dress, hair flowing down her back. Bruno loved the soft sensuality, but also saw hand issues with this dance. Carrie Ann thought the real Brandy finally showed herself and saw small problems with the legs. Len thought the technique was good, but would have liked a more settled stance.

Scores: Technique 22/30, Performance 26/30, Total 48/60

Rick Fox & Cheryl Burke

Rick feels in practice that he may throw Cheryl and there are some clumsy moments. They work it out okay and at least don't have an Acoustic Stage disaster.

Formal in a white dress coat, Rick and Cheryl danced the Argentine tango, with the aid of a chair. Carrie Ann thought the beginning was "sexy hot," but was let down. Len liked the lifts, but also thought the dance lost energy. Bruno agreed and didn't think it was as musical as the tango could of been.

Scores: Technique 19/30, Performance 20/30, Total 39/60

Kyle Massey & Lacey Schwimmer

Lacy is concerned with Kyle, only 19, even knowing what sexy is. Her fear is he's still more boy than man.

You have to give Kyle credit, out of the DWTS male stars his formal wear always looks more fresh, without being hipster. Dancing the Rumba to "Nothing on You" had Len complimenting on improved footwork. He was concerned with some abruptness. Bruno was also concerned with fluidity. Carie Ann liked the more sweet than sexy performance.

Scores: Technique 18/30, Performance 22/30, Total 40/60

The Situation & Karina Smirnoff

Week 4 continues with The Situation and Karina taking on the Argentine tango. Karina is fully aware that they aren't the most technical couple in the competition, but hopes to gain points in performance.

The Situation's red, unbuttoned, yet tucked in shirt was a little distracting--and not in a good way--as the pair started dancing to "Sweet Dreams." Bruno thought the dance was a "terrible mess" and never quite made sense. Carrie Ann welcomed The Situation's abs to Dancing with the Stars, but thought the dance was rough. But an improvement. Len called the dance consistently bad.

Scores: Technique 12/30, Performance 16/30, Total 28/60

Florence Henderson & Corky Ballas

Florence and Corky work on the technical, but she isn't worried about the sexy. Corky is worried about being dignified and calls in his son, dancer Mark Ballas, and her daughter. Florence's daughter is slightly horrified at what they deem appropriate.

Florence's sparkly gold dress was infinitely more sophisticated and sexy than last week's barmaid outfit. Their Rumba to "Yesterday" shocks Carrie Ann, who thought it went a little too far. Len thought it was much better than expected. Bruno, long on adjectives, did manage to get over Mrs. Brady being sexy and noticed some technical difficulties.

Scores: Technique 17/30, Performance 18/30, Total 35/60

Jennifer Grey & Derek Hough

Jennifer likes the idea of being able to move up this week, but is worried about foot and back pain. She actually apologizes to Derek for being too old.

Jennifer shouldn't sweat her age. Her and Derek's Argentine Tango (or maybe just her looking hot in a see-through bit of lace dress) put them back on top of the Dancing with the Stars season 11 leaderboard. They also receive the first tens of the season. Len commended the technique and performance, calling it a magnificent delight." Bruno shouted that their tango was a "Prime-time delight!" Carrie Ann thought the dance was amazing

Scores: Technique 27/30, Performance 29/30, Total 56/60

Bristol Palin & Mark Ballas

Bristol is worried about not being sexy. Even Mark comments that Bristol and the Rumba have nothing in common.

Bristol and Mark's Rumba to "Umbrella" was disappointing for such a young and handsome pair. Bristol looked the part, on the floor with her hair spilling around. Her short black body suit and long sleeved white shirt even screamed "morning after." But the judges didn't buy it. Bruno called her technically clean, but the performance vacant. Carrie Ann thinks she has the makings, but doesn't put any effort into it. Wants more intensity. Len wants more convictions in the performance, but thought technique was good.

Scores: Technique 18/30, Performance 14/30, Total 32/60

Audrina Patridge & Tony Dovolani

Audrina is a little psyched out by the Acoustic Stage and being so close to the audience. Tony works on acting techniques with her.

Audrina was smokin' in their Argentine Tango, draped in a cut-to-there red dress. Carrie Ann worries on foot extension and dismounts, but thinks performance was growing. For Len, technique was okay but the performance didn't transport him. Bruno thinks Audrina has the "Ice Queen" thing going, which he thinks works, but agrees on foot extending.

Scores: Technique 24/30, Performance 22/30, Total 46/60

The Dancing with the Stars 2010 week 4 results show will air Tuesday night, 9/8 central on ABC. A performance by the Goo Goo Dolls is scheduled for that episode, which will carry on the acoustic theme.
