Dancing with the Stars 2010 Week 8 Results: Kurt Warner Calls His Last Play, Bristol the Pistol Lives On

The Maks V. Carrie Ann Battle Wages On

The Dancing with the Stars 2010 week 8 results show aired November 9 following a night of high scores and the birth of the Instant Dance round. Jam-packed with the latest edition of Kenny Mayne's Dancecenter, musical performances by Taio Cruz and John Legend and The Roots, an adorable quintet of talented kids and the usual results show faire, the hour came to an end with the elimination of NFL star Kurt Warner. Here's a recap.

Co-hosts Tom Bergeron and Brooke Burke got things started by asking head judge Len Goodman to name the week's encore dance. Crankypants called Disney kid Kyle Massey and partner Lacey Schwimmer to the floor to reprise their spirited, high-energy Jive, and the funky, vaguely mismatched duo complied. Shortly thereafter, Kyle and Lacey stood alone on stage and learned that they were safe to dance again in next week's semifinal round. One couple down, four more to go!

The Dancing with the Stars 2010 week 8 results show continued with a brand spanking new edition of Dancecenter with Kenny Mayne, a bejeweled, eye-linered Jerry Rice and Lennie Goodman. Kenny picked on NFL star Kurt Warner first; Len praised his "will to win" but said he needs to "camouflage" his big hands. Up next on Kenny's target board was Kyle, who took Kenny's needles for his fashion sense, and then teen activist Bristol Palin, who earned praise for her footwork. Yep, weird.

The night's first musical performance came next, as Taio Cruz and his sunglasses (really, is it that dark in there or is it a fashion statement?) took to the DWTS ballroom floor with his single Dynamite. Six pro dancers, including the chick whose name I still haven't figured out because I don't think she's ever actually appeared as a contestant's partner, accompanied him with some fancy footwork.

Not to be outdone, Grammy winner John Legend and The Roots took to the DWTS stage next with Wake Up Everybody. A quartet of pro dancers including Cheryl Burke, Chelsie Hightower, Maks Chmerkovskiy and Tony Dovolani offered visual accompaniment. Phew, two dances in a row for Chelsie! Tough stuff.

Brooke then interviewed three of the remaining celebs in the Red Room. Actress Jennifer Grey called DWTS "the most fun thing I've ever done", while R&B singer Brandy said that while Carrie Ann Inaba and Len argued last night, she'd opted to stay out of it. Brooke then sent Kurt and Jennifer out to find out their respective fates. Semifinal bound or not? Yes siree to Jennifer and partner Derek Hough, but not-so-fast-there for Kurt and partner Anna Trebunskaya, who were left under the glare of the red lights.

Then it was back to the Red Room with the two remaining couples: Bristol and partner Mark Ballas, and Brandy and partner Maks. Bristol claimed to be having "a blast" performing. Maks apologized "to the fans" for losing his cool on last night's Dancing with the Stars week 8 broadcast, and added a "let's do our jobs" message to fellow arguee Carrie Ann. Ouch. Way to go with the display of maturity, big guy.

Well, since Maks decided to act like a child, it makes sense that the next results show segment featured... kids! And five cute and very talented ones, to boot. A quartet of dancers Jived to the Tooty-Fruity piano stylings of a very skilled little musician. DWTS band leader and pro dancers of the future for sure!

John Legend and The Roots returned after a commercial break with Ordinary People. It was pretty and all, but man, it made me tired. Much too soothing and elevatoresque for late on a Tuesday night. What kept me awake during the performance, however, was the accompanying pair of Mark Ballas and So You Think You Can Dance winner Jeanine Mason. Didn't I hear buzz that they're dating recently? Niiice.

But you knew we hadn't heard enough from Kenny, Jerry and Len, right? Still two stars to dissect. Len called Brandy "a bloomin' good dancer" and said he loves her. (Really, though, Jerry's make-up and sparkly skating top was just, er, bizarre. Distracting in a puzzling and disturbing way. But funny as heck.) After Kenny finished making fun of Derek and Jen's Baby-rocking, Len called the actress "a natural dancer". Weird to the last drop. So moving on....

The Dancing with the Stars 2010 week 8 results show continued as Tom reviewed (leaderboard bottom-dweller) Bristol and (leaderboard co-topper) Brandy's most recent performances. In the evening's most shocking moment, Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas were cleared to move on to the semifinals, leaving Brandy and Maks in peril along with Kurt and Anna.

Ooh, what to think, what to think. The results here could be not terribly shocking or extremely shocking. Dum da dum! Tom turned to the judges for their thoughts. Bruno said that losing Kurt would be the loss of a real "gentleman" and a true "American idol". Carrie Ann called Brandy "strong, passionate and emotional" and then turned to Maks, telling him that she hopes he realizes that she respects all of the DWTS pros and he needs to "let [the drama] go". Moments later, Kurt Warner and Anna Trebunskaya were eliminated from Dancing with the Stars 2010.

In his usual class act way, he thanked everyone, including Anna, his wife and an "MVP!" cheering crowd, for their support. While I'm sad to see Kurt go, it was one of the fairest outcomes possible this week. I'm so glad that he had as many weeks as he did to be a light to the world. Thanks Kurt!

So that's it for the Dancing with the Stars 2010 week 8 results show. Tune in next Monday night for the season 11 semifinals on ABC. (Yes, already!) Or you can just check in with me. You know I'll be watching.

I have stopped watching now. Bristol needs to go. I thought this was supposed to be dance contest. I have come to conclusion that Dancing with the Stars really needs to advertise it for what it is.. a popularity contest. Audrina was by far a better dancer as was Kurt.

Bristol should have been gone a long time ago! Nothing personal - she has made a lot of improvement but lacks depth. Oh yeah, Max needs to get his big boy pants on and get on with it. Both he and Brandy need to stop being spoiled brats.
