'Dancing with the Stars' 2011 Semifinal Results Show -- Who Made the Cut?

Sherry Wight

And then there were three, as the "Dancing with the Stars" semifinal results show aired November 15 on ABC. So which of the four hopefuls --Hope Solo, Ricki Lake, J.R. Martinez or Rob Kardashian-- fell just a single week short of going for Mirrorball glory? Read on for a full results show recap.

Co-hosts Tom Bergeron and Brooke Burke-Charvet turned to head judge Len Goodman to introduce the night's encore performance to kick off the show. Lennie called forward reality dude slash demi-celebrity Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke to re-enact their booty-shaking Samba. Yes, okay. So Rob has made great strides in the competition. But his Samba rolls still don't even come close to touching that awesomeness that were J.R.'s Samba rolls. Just sayin'.

And because they were already out on stage, the night's "DWTS" elimination action began with them. Given the rampant mostly Carrie Ann Inaba-driven Rob-love, it was no surprise when they were deemed finalists. Ta-da.

Following a break, Cobra Starship performed "You Make Me Feel". Never heard of 'em before. I'm confused over why the guys all channeled the Beatles and the keyboardist wore a nice dress, but the other chick wore trashy-looking pants and a midriff-baring top. Oh well. At least there was a pro dance performance to distract me: The lovely Kym Johnson and the inexorably hot Tristan MacManus and a pair from the "DWTS" troupe hoofed it.

More results action followed as last night's lowest scorers, World Cup star Hope Solo and Maksim Chmerkovskiy, stepped up to hear their fates. Just from watching the pre-taped review segment, I have to say it: Hope needs to get over herself. She's an awkward dancer. Love Maks, but dude, she's got attitude issues. Just like it wasn't surprising to see Rob make the finals, it wasn't a surprise when Hope found herself in peril. Duh.

After Brooke chatted with remaining couples Ricki Lake and Derek Hough and J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff, Carson Kressley returned to lighten the mood with a visit to the "Dancing with the Stars" wardrobe department. The affable Carson ran around a fabric store and played with material as he helped create costumes for the hopefuls. It was fluffy and light. Tra la la.

And then the season's Design a Dance competition! Chosen pros Derek Hough and Anna Trebunskaya took the ballroom by storm with their heated "Bad Romance" Paso Doble. I worried for a moment that Derek was going to pull Anna's top off, but was pleased to see his six pack (or was it an eight pack?) prominently displayed. It's the little things.

The AT&T spotlight performance of the week followed. It featured Gold School students and Kenny Wormald talking about the troubles associated with being a male dancer. Then, of course, the four students profiled danced live with four "DWTS" pros. You go boys. You go.

Following a break, Tom and Gonzo introduced a performance by... yes, The Muppets and their dance troupe. They have a new movie coming out next week. It was cute. And Miss Piggy wasn't annoying for once.

And then what I was waiting for: More results action as Ricki and Derek and J.R. and Karina stepped up to hear their fates. While Ricki and Derek were proclaimed safe to dance again, J.R. and Karina remained in jeopardy. Stupid ankle injury. If J.R. hadn't gotten hurt he'd have been a shoo-in for the finals.

After one last, torturous break, the two endangered couples --Hope Solo and Maksim Chmerkovskiy and J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff-- stood awaiting the big elimination news. Before the big reveal, Brooke stressed that they weren't necessarily the bottom two. After the requisite dramatic music, Hope and Maks were booted from "Dancing with the Stars" 2011's Fall season.

Hope called "DWTS" "one of the toughest competitions I've ever been a part of" and thanked her family, friends and fan base for their support. Maks thanked Hope for her "determination and will" but "wished [he] could've done better" for her.

Tune in to next week's one-hour "Dancing with the Stars" performance finale to see the fun and fabulous freestyles. Which celeb will walk away the winner? Keep an eye on your TV! Or you can just check in with me. You know I'll be watching.

Love the wrap up. I actually want Rob to win. He has been pictured as the underdog of his famed- family . It would be nice to see hm reach a positive milestone with his on accord. I love dancing and often find myself dancing in the living room on a Saturday night but I could never muster up the courage to dance in front of millions under such difficult choreography. Great work Sherry.

Thanks for the wrap up. Just can't seem to watch an entire show. Too much drama and delay.
