'Dancing With the Stars' 2011 Week 3 Results: Wendy Williams Falls Short

The "Dancing with the Stars" 2011 week 3 results show aired Tuesday night on ABC. The evening's entertainment included musical performances by teen sensation Selena Gomez and the Grammy nominated band One Republic, as well as a spin around the ballroom by the Dancing with the Stars troupe. At hour's end, the results action came to a head as talk show host Wendy Williams was eliminated from the season 12 competition. Here's a full recap.

Co-hosts Tom Bergeron and Brooke Burke opened the show by taking a look at the judges' leaderboard, which featured NFL star Hines Ward and supermodel Petra Nemcova on top with 25 points each. Tom then turned to head judge Len Goodman, who asked Hines and partner Kym Johnson to perform their Samba as the week's encore dance. But before they could take to the ballroom floor, Tom revealed that they were safe to dance again. One down, nine to go!

After Hines and Kym's shimmy-shakin' reprisal, Tom got the evening's elimination action started in earnest by calling Sugar Ray Leonard and partner Anna Trebunskaya and Romeo and partner Chelsie Hightower forward to hear their fates. Sugar Ray and Anna were declared safe, as were Romeo and Chelsie. Seven to go.

Following a commercial break, One Republic performed their newest single Good Life. "Dancing with the Stars" 2011 pros Lacey Schwimmer (who was eliminated from the competition last week) and Dmitry Chaplin took a turn on the dancefloor in accompaniment.

Back in the Red Room, Brooke had a chat with leaderboard bottomdwellers Wendy Williams and Tony Dovolani and toppers Petra Nemcova and Dmitry Chaplin. Wendy hoped to survive until next week on the strength of fan votes, while Petra shared that she was stunned to find herself atop the pack. Then she sent the two pairs to the stage to hear their fates, and had a quick chat with actress Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who provided week 3's most dramatic moment -- a mid-dance fall that became an internet sensation.

In the ballroom, Tom revealed that Petra and Dmitry would be continuing on in the "DWTS" season 12 competition, while Brooke shared that Wendy and Tony were still in danger of elimination. (Duh. Really, is anyone surprised by this? No.) That news was followed by a segment featuring video clips shot by the celebs themselves, which included gems including Ralph Macchio icing his knees and Petra smacking at the camera as Dmitry recorded her.

Up next, Selena Gomez and the Scene performed "Who Says", accompanied by Mark Ballas and Chelsie Hightower on the dancefloor. I didn't pay a lot of attention to the singing, but her foofy red dress was super cute.

After a break, Tom revealed that the Design a Dance Jive for the season would be performed to the tune of "We Got the Beat". That could be interesting. Immediately after, he called Disney star Chelsea Kane and partner Mark Ballas and reality star Kendra Wilkinson and partner Louis van Amstel forward to hear their results. Chelsea and Mark were declared safe, while Kendra and Louis remained in jeopardy (to hearty boos from the crowd).

Up next, the pros waxed philosophical about the "Dancing with the Stars" 2011 competition. Kym Johnson called Kirstie Alley "just adorable", while Karina Smirnoff remarked on Romeo's "swagger". Anna Trebunskaya was impressed with Chelsea's ability to keep up with Mark, and Maksim Chmerkovskiy called Anna and Sugar Ray "a lethal combination". Chelsie enjoyed Hines' "bubbly" nature and charisma. (There was plenty more, but dude, I can't type that fast. Suffice it to say that there was plenty of kissy-kissy, we-love-our-celebs going on.)

Following yet another tedious break, One Republic performed their hit "All the Right Moves". The DWTS Troupe also performed all the right moves. (Sorry, that was lame. It was a poor attempt to suppress a yawn.)

And then finally, more elimination action as Chris Jericho and Cheryl Burke, Ralph and Karina, and Kirstie and Maks learned their fates. Ralph and Karina were saved first, followed by Kirstie and Maks. Chris and Cheryl found themselves in jeopardy. Now I know the couples 'still in peril' aren't necessarily the bottom-feeders with viewers, but aw, I thought Chris's Rumba was better than that! Not perfect, but so sweet and squishy.

After one final break, the "Dancing with the Stars" 2011 week 3 results show came to a dramatic close as Wendy Wiliams, Kendra Wilkinson and Chris Jericho took to the stage one final time to learn whether or not they'd be continuing in the competition. Kendra and Louis were saved next, leaving Wendy and Chris awaiting their results. Len had high praise for Chris in particular, calling him a surprisingly good dancer all-around. Not surprisingly, after the usual pause and dramatic music, Wendy Williams and Tony Dovolani were eliminated from "DWTS" season 12. Wendy thanked Tony for teaching her to dance, and promised to do more talking on her show tomorrow. (That should be something!)

So that's it for the "Dancing with the Stars" results show. Tune in next week for the reality show's first-ever Classical Week. Or you can just check in with me. You know I'll be watching.
