'Dancing With the Stars' 2011 Week 4 Results: Sugar Ray Leonard is KO'd

The "Dancing with the Stars" 2011 week 4 results show aired Tuesday night on ABC. The latest elimination episode featured more musical stylings from David Garrett, who figured prominently in Classical week performance night action, and not one but two numbers by Grammy winner Jennifer Hudson. At evening's end, boxer Sugar Ray Leonard saw his Mirrorball quest come to an end.

The "DWTS" results show opened with a powerful, funky rendition of "Walk This Way" from violinist David Garrett. Naturally, the "DWTS" troupe offered up some fancy footwork in accompaniment.

Following the opening entertainment, co-hosts Tom Bergeron and Samantha Harris called Classical week high-scorers Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas, Hines Ward and Kym Johnson and Ralph Macchio and Karina Smirnoff forward to hear their respective fates. First to be declared safe to dance again were Ralph and Karina, who delivered a lovely Romeo and Juliet-themed Waltz last night. Also safe were Hines and Kym. Much to Len's surprise, Chelsea and Mark remained in danger of elimination.

In an awkward transitory move, Len asked none other than the Disney star and her partner to perform the week's encore dance. Chelsea and Mark re-executed their "Harry Potter" Viennese Waltz with great aplomb, and brought an appreciative crowd to their feet.

What followed can only be described as a dorky, corny taped segment featuring General Len introducing the week 5 "Dancing with the Stars" theme --in a nutshell, American Week-- to the contestant-recruits. In spite of myself, I laughed a few times at the silliness.

After a break, Grammy Award winner Jennifer Hudson, wearing a rather unflattering short purple bubble dress, took to the stage with her single "Don't Look Down". Karina and fellow "DWTS" pro Louis van Amstel provided visual accompaniment to the powerful singer's vocals.

In the Red Room, Brooke chatted up Romeo, Petra Nemcova and Chris Jericho, who all finished middle-of-the-pack last night. Chris quipped that he wished his scores had been better, but he also wished the economy were better. Meh heh. That guy is far more entertaining that I'd ever imagined he'd be. And then, more results! Chris and Cheryl Burke were declared safe, followed by Romeo and Chelsie Hightower. The sweet-tempered Petra and Dmitry, however, remained in jeopardy. Aw, boo to that.

Back in the Red Room, Brooke talked with low-scoring couples Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovsky, Sugar Ray Leonard and Anna Trebunskaya, and Kendra Wilkinson and Louis vam Amstel. Kendra blamed her off-kilter peformance night behavior to her womanly hormones. Whoa. Wow. That's some blunt honesty for ya.

Up next came a segment featuring the pros' thoughts on the challenges of choreography. Uh, yeah. Pretty predictable stuff. "I want it to be fun". "I feel accomplished when my star excels". That kind of jazz.

Then, the first Macy's Stars of Dance routine of "Dancing with the Stars" 2011 aired. Appropriately for Classical week, it featured a troupe of classical (and madly skilled) ballet dancers. Ah, there's nothing quite as beautiful and calming as a well-performed ballet.

After a break, Jennifer Hudson returned to the ballroom to perform "Feeling Good". Man alive, she has some pipes. Stll don't like the dress, but the girl can sing. She was joined by a quartet of pro hoofers.

And then finally more "Dancing with the Stars" results! Of the three lowest-scoring couples, Kirstie and Maks were first to be declared safe to dance again. Kendra and Louis were also saved, but Sugar Ray and Anna found themselves still up for elimination. So that leaves Chelsea Kane, Petra Nemcova and Sugar Ray Leonard in peril. Oh, the drama.

Following one last agonizing --oh, the pathos!-- commercial break, it was time for the big reveal. First to be called safe were Petra and Dmitry, leaving Chelsea and Sugar Ray under the heat of the red lights. After the requisite dramatic music, Sugar Ray Leonard was eliminated from the "Dancing wth the Stars" 2011 competition. The boxer was heartened to learn that Len considered him "the heart of the show", and he and Anna said heartfelt thank yous to one another before heading off for their final dance.

Three down, seven to go until the big winner of "DWTS" season 12 earns his or her right to hoist the glittering Mirrorball Trophy toward the ballroom ceiling. Tune in to ABC next Monday night at 8 PM Eastern/Pacific to check out the celebs as they tackle American Week. Or you can just check in with me. You know I'll be watching.
