'Dancing With the Stars' 2011 Week 6 Results: Chris Jericho Stops Believin'

Sherry Wight
Tuesday evening marked the dismissal of yet another celebrity hopeful from "Dancing with the Stars" 2011 as the Guilty Pleasures week results show aired on ABC. The show included performances by 90s supergroups New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys, as well as recent "American Idol" cast-off Pia Toscano. Before the lights dimmed, WWE star Chris Jericho was booted from the competition. Here's a complete rundown of the action.

Co-hosts Tom Bergeron and Brooke Burke got things started by introducing a performance by 90s supergroups New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys, performing their collective "NKOTBSB" new single "Don't Turn Out the Lights". Ah, Joey McIntyre, you teen dream, do you ever age? Of course not. Your livelihood depends on it. Women who adored you as teenagers 20 years ago depend on it. Anyway, "DWTS" pros Tony Dovolani and Lacey Schwimmer as well as the Troupe joined them with a ballroom romp.

Then the elimination action began in earnest as leaderboard toppers Chelsea Kane and Romeo and their partners were called forward to hear their respective fates. Romeo and partner Chelsie Hightower were first to be declared safe, followed by Chelsea and partner Mark Ballas. Well THAT was anticlimactic.

Tom then turned to head judge Len Goodman who chose "one of the hottest dances ever" seen on "Dancing with the Stars" -- Kendra Wilkinson and Louis van Amstel's smokin' Samba -- as the week's encore number. The former Playboy Playmate and Louis offered a reprisal of their sizzling selection, much to the delight of the judges.

Backstage in the Red Room, Brooke chatted Romeo and Chelsie as well as Ralph Macchio and Karina Smirnoff. Romeo said being at the top felt "like the first time I asked Halle Berry out and she said yes". Brooke touched on Karina's fall, and Ralph was quick to defend his partner, calling the error a "mishap" rather than a "mistake".

Meanwhile, middle of the packers Kirstie Alley and Hines Ward and their pro partners Kym Johnson and Maksim Chmerkovskiy were called to the stage for more results action. Both were summarily saved to dance again

Up next, the "Dancing with the Stars" results show continued with a taped segment featuring the "DWTS" troupe and their thoughts on being a part of the show. And yup: They like it.

The evening's Macy*s Stars of Dance, which was choreographed by Christopher Scott and featured a love story developing over time, aired next. The piece was inspired partly by the upcoming Royal Wedding of Kate Middleton and Prince William. And man, it made me tear up toward the end when the older couple danced and then the woman wound up alone beside their tree. Aw.

The next fluff-pack featured the contestants talking about the show, and the mettle that it takes to compete. Romeo said he wanted to show the haters that he is a true contender, while Chelsea noted that "pushing through" the pains is important. Chris Jericho called the entire process "hard", while Romeo called the pre-show moments "the most nervous I've ever been". Ralph claimed to "thrive" on the 90 seconds of performance time each week. Kendra Wilkinson said she was willing to "scratch and claw" to get the Mirrorball Trophy. Kirstie Alley said she "comes to life" in all or nothing situations like the "DWTS" competition. There were more comments of course, but dude, I can't type that fast.

Nineties pre-teen mania returned next as "NKOTBSB" returned with a medley of their songs "I Want it That Way" and "Step by Step". Seriously, it was like being in a time machine that took me back to the sixth grade. It was truly shocking when two of the New Kids hopped down from the stage and danced with "DWTS" pro Anna Trebunskaya and troupe member Peta. Craziness! Okay, well, not really. But I know they need to fill the time somehow. Can't just give us the results in say, 30 minutes, right? Right.

The "Dancing with the Stars" results show resumed after a commercial break with "American Idol" cast-off Pia Toscano singing "I'll Stand By You". Her alleged boyfriend and "DWTS" pro Mark Ballas and Karina Smirnoff performed in accompaniment. Pia rocked it. America was nutso to send her home so early on in the "AI" competition. Tom chatted briefly with the singer afterward, and she once again cleverly deflected questions about her relationship with Mark, saying only "he's a wonderful person". Ha!

Up next, the elimination action continued as the week's lowest scoring couples -- Kendra Wilkinson and partner Louis van Amstel, Chris Jericho and Cheryl Burke, and Ralph Macchio and Karina Smirnoff -- were called forward to hear their fates. First to be declared safe to dance again were Kendra and Louis, leaving just two couples under the harsh glare of the red lights. After a commercial break, Tom and Brooke revealed that Chris Jericho had been eliminated from the "Dancing with the Stars" 2011 competition. Chris said he was "proud of all the dances we did" and joked that the timing was fine because he had to fly to England for the Royal Wedding anyway. He admitted that he hadn't seen his kids in four weeks, thanks to the "taxing" nature of the show. Cheryl called her partner "an amazing dancer and an amazing friend".

And with that, the "Dancing with the Stars" week 6 results show came to a close. Watch ABC next Monday night at 8 p.m. Eastern/Pacific to see how the remaining celebs handle the challenge of learning two brand new dances. It should be interesting! Or you can just check in with me. You know I'll be watching.
