The "Dancing with the Stars" week 8 results show aired May 10 on ABC. The evening's action included performances by Adele and former "DWTS" contestant Michael Bolton, And of course, at night's end, another contestant got the boot as America bade farewell to rapper Romeo. Here's a recap.
Co-hosts Tom Bergeron and Brooke Burke turned the mic over to head judge Len Goodman, who asked Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy to re-dance their steamy Argentine Tango as the week's encore performance. I knew it would be good when I saw that the I-love-you I-hate-you pair had been assigned to dance it this week! It's so totally up their stylistic alley that there was zero chance that it wouldn't rock. And it sure did.
And then the results began in earnest as NFL star Hines Ward and Alley and their respective partners were called to forward to hear their fates. Both couples were named semifinalists. Badda-bing, badda-boom.
Up next, Jerry Rice, Kenny Mayne and Len reprised their roles as Dancecenter hosts. Len praised Kirstie's acting skills, while Kenny intimated that there was something going on between her and her Ukrainian Bachelor partner. Then they played the now infamous sex on a stick clip again. Muwahaha! Then Jerry licked a paper doll of himself. Uh, yeah. They moved on to Romeo next. Len started to tell what he loved about the kid, but Jerry and Kenny interrupted repeatedly, criticizing the rapper for not working out hard enough. Muwahaha. With two down, the silliness stopped... for the time being.
Ex-"DWTS" competitor Michael Bolton and Australian songstress Delta Goodrem hit the ballroom with "I'm Not Ready", accompanied by "Dancing" pros Anna Trebunskaya and Dmitry Chaplin. (I wonder why Jonathan Roberts didn't dance with his wife?) Anyway, it was a pretty number, but wow, Delta totally outsang Michael. She has some seriously powerful pipes.
Backstage in the Red Room, Brooke chatted with the three contestants awaiting their fates. Ralph Macchio shared that his leg was feeling better and hoped that he'd get a chance to move forward in the competition. Romeo said that he'd be sad no matter who wound up getting the boot, while Chelsea Kane called the impending elimination a "no-win" situation.
Up next, a segment aired featuring a trio of brothers, the Tuita boys, who lost their father to a stroke. Following their inspirational story, the boys took to the "Dancing with the Stars" ballroom floor --along with a trio of lovely ladies-- to show off their stuff. Talent? Check. Cute-factor of 11-year old? Check. Good stuff? Check.
Following a break, Delta Goodrem stepped in to sing "Natural Woman" in place of the ailing Adele. She was pretty darn amazing given that she'd never sung it before. "DWTS" pros Louis van Amstel and Cheryl Burke took a few turns around the floor in accompaniment.
And then, of course, Dancecenter returned with a look at Ralph, Hines and Chelsea. Len loved his posture and his ability to get into the character of his dances, while Kenny likened him to the kid at school who sold gum. What? Len called Hines "a natural" dancer, and said he could well be the best "footballer we've had on "Dancing with the Stars". Of course, Jerry took offense. Then they played a blooper reel from rehearsals. Muhwah. Chelsea took Kenny's heat for her costume choices. Yeah. Well, not one of the funniest I've ever seen. Maybe next time.
Up next, Grammy Winner Adele performed "Rolling in the Deep". Travis Wall choreographed the accompanying routine. The gals dancing were off just enough in their timing to make it a little awkward-looking. Bummer. Okay, now I confess: I hadn't heard Adele sing before tonight. She has a very rich, melodic tone.
With that performance down, Tom and Brooke called the injured Ralph, Romeo and Chelsea forward to find out which of them had made the "Dancing with the Stars" 2011 semis. Ralph and partner Karina Smirnoff were left in jeopardy, followed by Romeo and partner Chelsie Hightower. Chelsea and partner Mark Ballas were proclaimed semifinalists. And then dum da dum... the final results. After the requisite dramatic music, Romeo and Chelsie were eliminated from the competition.
Hold the phone, what? That's not what I expected. Carrie Ann Inaba looked stunned to see the results, but Romeo was pleased that he and Chelsie "went out with a bang". He shared that entering the show he'd been "terrified of dance" and was happy that he'd shown kids that it's okay to "fall on your face a few times and get back up". Aw, so cute. He expressed a deep appreciation for his partner, and added that they could still dance together even though they'd been eliminated.
So with just a few weeks left to go, which celeb will take the Mirrorball Trophy? Will it be usual leaderboard toppers Chelsea Kane or Hines Ward? The convalescing Ralph Macchio? Or perhaps Kirstie Alley can orchestrate a big uspet and walk away the big winner. It's anybody's gain. Tune in to ABC next Monday for the semifinal round of "Dancing with the Stars" 2011. Or you can just check in with me. You know I'll be watching.

Post a CommentInteresting - we were shocked about Romeo's departure also. cheers ;)
Kirstie Alley has the finesse and grace of a Mack truck. I don't understand what these judges
are judging, but it certainly isn't dancing talent. For several weeks now I have watched one
contestant after another get sent home, while this buffoon continues to stay on. It is a total
injustice and an insult to the American public. Truly disgusting!
