Dancing with the Stars: Does the Show Need New Professional Dancers?

Dancing with the Stars' Seasoned Dancers Need a Kick in the Tutu

Is Dancing with the Stars one of your favorite shows? Have you watched it every season, thrilling at the way the professional dancers move? And have you noticed lately that the more seasoned professionals, Cheryl Burke; Maksim Chmerkovskiy; Tony Dovolani; Louis van Amstel; Karina Smirnoff; and Kym Johnson are looking tired? A kick in the dance pants-or in the tutu, as the case may be-by way of a change of venue might be needed for the professional dancers. Here are a few reasons why the seasoned dancers who've been on Dancing with the Stars for almost a decade might be ready for a change.

Dancing with the Stars: Working with amateurs is difficult.
The seasoned dancers act professionally, and most work well with whoever is assigned to them. They appear to be more patient than the younger dancers (even Maks, "The Bad Boy of the Ballroom" has mellowed), but it has to be difficult, psychologically, to work with amateur partners for so many seasons. The Dancing with the Stars' professionals know each year that their own dancing and choreography are top notch, but that the amateurs may prevent them from ever winning the coveted Dancing with the Stars trophy, whether for the first time, or ever again.

Dancing with the Stars: In-your-face exposure.
The professional dancers spend significant hours with the stars under their care, and frequently in intimate postures. In addition, there are cameramen, a director, producer, and a myriad of other personnel required to make Dancing with the Stars the television hit that it is. Even the most talented and gregarious dancer is bound to get tired of the in-your-face exposure that takes place over so many years of dancing on the show.

Dancing with the Stars: Strenuous routines.
There's no doubt the routines are difficult. At this point, the seasoned professionals have been dancing on the show for 8-11 years, one of them is pushing forty (out of courtesy, I won't say which one), and most of them are looking tired and somewhat bored. I'm not suggesting Cheryl, Tony, Louis, or any of the others who've been with Dancing with the Stars for a significant amount of time are too old to dance, just that it might be time for them to move into different roles.

Let's face it, Dancing with the Stars is a TV show that requires the professional dancers maintain their energy and vitality over a long time frame, and that's a difficult requirement to fulfill. Working with amateurs, in-your-face exposure, and the strenuousness of the routines all take their toll both physically and psychologically. All of which suggests that it might be time for a new roster to replace the more seasoned professional dancers.

However, here's a thought ... considering the fact that the judges have been on Dancing with the Stars for twelve years, maybe it's time for Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman, and Bruno Tonioli to move on and for Cheryl, Tony and Louis to take a cue and become judges. There would probably be a lot less arguing between those three.

I really like Kristie and Maks, but know they aren't going to win. So, my other favorites are Petra and Dmitry.
