Dancing with the Stars: Evan Lysacek Rumbas at the Movies to "Armageddon"

"I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" was Their Song from the Movie "Armageddon" Evan & Anna Danced an Exquisite Rumba To

For the first time on Dancing with the Stars they instituted themes set to music for the couples to dance to. For the first week it was "Movie Night" on Monday night's performance show. The couples were given the name of the movie and a significant song from it to base their routine on. There would not be the double scores for Technique and Performance from last week. It was back to the one set of scores we have come to know and love or hate depending on your favorites. Also, they were not required to tell a story through the song. Basically, Dancing with the Stars was saluting the movies and its music. Some of the movies featured were Pulp Fiction, Risky Business, Nine to Five and Pretty Woman to name just a few.

To close out the Movie Night theme show on Dancing with the Stars Team Evanna, Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya, were set to dance the Rumba to the song "I Don't Want to Miss A Thing" by Aerosmith from the disaster/sci-fi/action film "Armageddon" that starred Bruce Willis. During their rehearsal/practice film that is always shown before the couple takes to the dance floor we learn Evan is now committed to the Stars on Ice tour for the reminder of his time on Dancing with the Stars. From Wednesday through Sunday he will be on the road with Anna right by his side faithfully practicing their routine of the week. I was a bit concerned about this added pressure now put on Evan during his tenure on the show. Earlier I thought he may score his first tens or receive a perfect score of "30". My hopes were dashed when Nicole and Derek danced the Tango and got two 10's. They danced right before Evan and Anna.

In the true Olympic gold medal style that sets Evan Lysacek apart from everyone else this season he and Anna captured the pure essence of the rumba, the dance of love in what I felt was perfection. For a moment during the pre-dance film it seemed Evan would have trouble with his hips for this dance. However, he worked his hips where it was not overdone, but subtle as it should be. They made this dance looks so easy and effortless. It flowed exquisitely from one movement to the next. I loved when Evan did the lunges while Anna pulled away. That was beautiful to watch.

In the end the judges all loved Evan and Anna's rumba. Bruno and Carrie stated one constructive criticism, which was more like picking at a flawless diamond, to work more on his upper and lower body. Yeah, that is getting ultra technical. They received their best overall score to date which was a "27" all in 9's. Usually Len Goodman has given a lower score than Carrie and Bruno, but this time he was in agreement with them. There may not have been any ten's in these scores, but I was happy to see Team Evanna finally go last and close out the show. At least they are in second place just two points behind Nicole and Derek, their strongest competitors since week one. Next week's dances will be either the Samba or Swing marathon. This should be very interesting. Whenever I hear anything about dance marathons I always think of the movie "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?"
