'Dancing with the Stars' Finale - True Redemption

Jolie du Pre
After 10 weeks, the "Dancing with the Stars" finale arrived. It's been an interesting season to say the least. As devoted "Dancing with the Stars" fans watched the professional dancers dance, in the opening number, with the celebrities, eliminated and non-eliminated, we anxiously awaited the final results.

Who won the mirror ball trophy? Was it Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer, Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas or Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough? Mark Ballas and Derek Hough grew up together and have never competed for the mirror ball trophy together. Despite the result, everyone will agree that these professional dancers, including Lacey Schwimmer, are top of the line.

Musical entertainment was Christina Aguilera. She sang a couple of songs, including a song from her new movie "Burlesque," which also stars Cher.

We got David Hasselhoff singing. The Hoff was surrounded with dancers dressed like "Baywatch" babes in red bathing suits.

Kurt Warner and Rick Fox had a playful challenge, along with their professional partners Cheryl Burke and Anna Trebunskaya. After they were done dancing, host Tom Bergeron asked who they thought would win, but all of them dodged that one.

Margaret Cho and Louis Van Amstel fooled around with Florence Henderson and Corky Ballas to the colorful "Copacabana" sung by Barry Manilow. Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino stripped off his shirt and danced with three lovely ladies, including his partner Karina Smirnoff.

Brandy and Maksim Chmerkovskiy were back to dance with a great Quick Step. They didn't make the finals, but, of course, many fans feel they should have.

"Dancing with the Stars" finale dance 1 - Favorite ballroom dance from the entire season

Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer

When it comes to "Dancing with the Stars," Kyle Massey, the last man standing, has not been about drama. He's showed up every week, with a great attitude, and he is arguably the most improved dancer. For their favorite ballroom dance, Kyle and Lacey chose the tango.

"You come out, straight on, full on, full of energy," said Len Goodman.

"You're a stage animal, " said Bruno Tonioli.

Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas

Bristol and Mark decided to go with their Rock Week tango. Bristol and Mark said the fans can't save them in the finale dances. So, Bristol didn't want to disappoint her fans. Said Bristol, "I'm going for all 10's."

"This is the dance that showed us Bristol the fighter, " said Bruno.

Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough

Jennifer ruptured a disc and thought she may not be able to dance. In the end, she decided to do it after visiting the doctor earlier in the day.

"You are the complete package, " said Len.

"Quality of music, musicality, all combined to make a bristfully beautiful waltz," said Bruno.

"Dancing with the Stars" finale dance 2 - Instant Cha Cha Challenge - "Raise your Glass" by Pink

Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer - 9, 9, 10 - 28

Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough - 9, 9, 10 - 28

Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas - 9, 9, 9 - 27

Bristol Palin said it would be a "big middle finger" to all the people who hate her mom and her if she were to win. But Bristol will have to save the finger for another time. She is the third place dancer in "Dancing with the Stars."

The person who deserves credit for struggling through the pain, and the person who is truly the best "Dancing with the Stars" celebrity dancer for season 11, is the 50-year-old winner of the mirror ball trophy - Jennifer Grey, along with her partner Derek Hough.

Great writing - I enjoyed your article very much.

I thought the judging was a lot more fair in tonights show than previous weeks, and not surprisingly the judges kept Bristol at the bottom. I was surpised at her coming in 3rd and not Kyle, but you can never tell how previous Celebs fans voted (Brandy did say she hoped Kyle would win). And I would have bene happy with Kyle winning, because he really did become a dancer...not as polished as Jennifer but real good.

    Excellent recap!

@Jeff - It wasn't the judges who pushed Palin along - it was the public. The judges gave her the scores she deserved. She ended up at the bottom of the leaderboard, many times, as a result. And the bottom of the leaderboard is where she belonged. The public ignored her poor dancing skills and pushed her along anyway. But it didn't work tonight. Brandy should have been in these finals, but she wasn't. Rick Fox and Audrina Patridge should have moved along higher, as well. Bristol should have been out at least by the time Florence went out.

after watching the judges define how they judged, I thought I had it figured out. however the show now has zero credibility and zero ethics when it come to the judges. during the past several weeks dancers have been "given" scores the had little connection with how they danced. A "9" should be close to perfections, pointed feet, solid extension, straight legs, great choreography, and risk. in one dancer there was none of the above, yet the judges on mass voted 8's and 9's.
on top of that the show by it's name should be made up of stars, or at least celebrities. there is no celebrity status in being the daughter of a quitting governor with much the same credibility as the judges on the show.
shame on the producers of this show for giving into the greed of ratings. you should be proud of yourselves. since the judges did not stand up for what they believed they should all be fired, but since they did what they were told by the producers they will p
