Dancing with the Stars May 24, 2010 Finals: A Little Disappointing

Joyce Carole
The final three Dancing with the Stars couples battled it out on the dance floor for the coveted Mirrorball Trophy in tonight's Finals. The three couples will dance two dances this evening and two more performances during tomorrow night's results show. Tomorrow night the other dancers will join the three finalists. Look forward to another Kate Gosselin performance.

The Couples Dance for Redemption

The first round of the Dancing with the Stars final was the redemption round. In this round, the DWTS judges give the couples the opportunity to "redo" a prior dance that the judges felt they could have done better.

Erin and Maks's Spicier Samba

ESPN's leggy blonde and her bad boy partner take another stab at the samba. The couple show marked improvement and perform what I consider the best dance of the round. Len Goldman gave the ESPN commenter high marks for improvement while Carrie Ann Inaba praised her sharp movements. Score: 29

Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunsakya sought redemption in the Viennese Waltz

Evan and Anna performed a beautiful Viennese waltz. The DWTS judges praised the couple's grace and elegance. Carrie Ann called the performance beautiful and praised the couple's connection. Score: 28

Nicole and Derek Redeem the Rumba

Nicole's first shot at the rumba was her only tentative performance. Carrie Ann praised Nicole for letting go, while Len Goldman called the dance great but commented that he still noticed a lack of confidence in Nicole's performance. Bruno, who is completely enamored with the pop star, called the performance superlative. Score: 28

The Game Changing Freestyle Round

The freestyle round may be the most important round of the competition. To quote Dancing with the Stars professional dancer, Anna Trebunskaya "whoever wins the freestyle wins the competition". While, that may not necessarily be true, it is no doubt an important performance.

Erin and Maks Heat up the Dance Floor with their Freestyle

I have to admit that I am loving Erin and Maks tonight. The couple has delivered two smoldering performances. Their performance was risky, but Judge Len Goldman said he liked but did not love their performance. Both Bruno and Carrie Ann loved their risk taking choreography. Score: 26

Anna and Evan Combine their Contrasting Visions for Their Freestyle

While the DWTS judges did not seem to appreciate the couple's performance, I really liked it. Carrie Ann called the performance "odd". Bruno went a step further and called Evan's performance "demented". Score: 24

Nicole and Derek Cap the Night's Performance with a Freestyle to Remember

While most of their performance sizzled, this is the first time I have seen the couple slip. Carrie Ann called the performance the freestyle they were waiting for. Bruno told the couple that they raised the bar. Score: 27

Dancing with the Stars Leaderboard

Erin and Maks: 29 + 26 = 55

Nicole and Derek: 28 +27 = 55

Evan and Anna: 26 + 24 = 52
