Dancing with the Stars Premier

Diane Howell
Pamela Anderson (no introduction needed), Nicole Scherzinger (from the Pussycat Dolls), Kate Gosselin (also no introduction needed), Chad Ochocinco (Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver), Shannen Doherty (Beverly Hills 90201 alumn), Evan Lysacek (gold medal figure skater), Erin Andrews (sports reporter), Buzz Aldrin (former astronaut), Aiden Turner (of All My Children), Niecy Nash (comic actress) and Jake Pavelka (`The Bachelor`).
The 2010 lineup is the typical mix: athletes, singers, actors, and a token elder. The only one that doesn`t fit into one of the typical groups is Kate Gosselin. She`s probably at quite a disadvantage as she hasn`t had to prepare and perform before.

The season opener had a few nice surprises. The live singing and band is fabulous. Brooke Burke, a former winner on the show, makes a lovely new co-host. The professional dancers have old favorites and some new blood. Let the competition begin!

Night one provided the expected results. Some contestants (Kate Gosselin, Aiden Turner . . .) appeared stiff and nervous but got through the first performance without any major missteps. Others (namely Pamela Anderson) delivered exactly what one would expect - vamping and titillation (no pun intended). The surprise of the night, for me, was Nicole Scherzinger. She was remarkably graceful and lovely to watch. Judge Bruno was his usual òver the top`self; Len Goodman was a little cranky, and Carrie Anne Inaba was the diplomat.

Tom Bergergon, in my opinion, is one of the finest hosts in the TV business. It`s no easy to task to perform the role live.

I suspect early exits will be made by Buzz Aldren (unfortunately) and Kate Gosselin. The rest will duke it out, with either Evan Lysacek or Nicole Scherzinger likely emerging on top. It should prove to be another entertaining season with lots of flashy costumes, fun music and a little drama. Enjoy!
