"Dancing with the Stars," Season 11, Episode 7 - Recap of 200th Episode Celebration
"DWTS," Season 11, Week 7 Recap and Review
Former "Dancing with the Stars" champions Kristi Yamaguchi and Apollo Ohno were brought back as team captains for a team dance competition on episode 7, season 11 of "DWTS."
Team Kristi included:
Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas
Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer
Rick Fox and Cheryl Burke
Team Kristi danced the cha cha cha. It was an odd combination with tall, handsome Rick Fox with short Mark Ballas and short, squat Kyle Massey. Overall their performance was good. The sore thumb was Bristol Palin who seemed a little hesitant with some of the moves, but you have to keep in mind she was the only non-professional female on the team. As the dance progressed she appeared to get more comfortable.
Team Kristi scored a 24. The points were added to individual dance scores.
Team Apollo was made up of:
Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough
Kurt Warner and Anna Trebunskaya
Brandy and Maksim Chmerkovskiy
Team Apollo also danced the cha cha cha. Their dance was good, but didn't have the same energy as Team Kristi's dance. In this dance the stiff legged competition was Kurt Warner, but like Bristol, he was the only male who wasn't a professional dancer. That's a tough place to be in.
Team Apollo scored 27. Team Apollo had better dancers, but the choreography for the cha cha cha was not as exciting as Team Kristi's dance. The judges showed who their favorites are. They even called Team Kristi "the underdogs."
Who will win "Dancing with the Stars" season 11?
One thing the team completion was offered a good measuring stick for who the best dancers really are. We got a chance to see them side-by-side on the dance floor. This competition definitely boils down to Jennifer Grey and Brandy.
The dances on "Dancing with the Stars," season 11, week 7
Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer - dance the paso doble
Mel B returned to judge Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer. They had to dance the same paso doble as Mel B and Maks. Kyle is too cute and cuddly to bring the heat to the paso doble. Lacey Schwimmer took on most of the difficult moves . Kyle new the dance and followed through, but he isn't a sexy, angry man like the paso doble requires.
I don't know where the judges saw the sexiness that they claimed to see. I can't see how they bend over backwards for Kyle Massey every week while the good dancers are eaten alive and eliminated. (Like Audrina Patridge.)
Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer scored 35, with their team score added their score was a 59. .
Kurt Warner and Anna Trebunskaya - danced the tango
Season 3 champion Emmitt Smith returned to judge Kurt Warner and Anna Trebunskaya dance the tango. Kurt was at the bottom of the leader board last week, but fan votes saved him. This week's dance needed to be spectacular.
Kurt got the footwork on the dance better this week, but he was concentrating so hard he didn't exude sexiness and confidence. The dance was a little too mechanical.
The judges commented that his confidence was more evident. Perhaps the confidence just didn't make it through the television screen. I didn't see it.
Kurt Warner and Anna Trebunskaya scored 34, for 61 as a total score.
Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas - danced the Viennese waltz
Kelly Osbourne was on hand to judge Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas dance the Viennese waltz. Bristol and Mark actually had a good dance. For one of the first times in the competition Bristol Palin smiled throughout the dance. Carrie Ann described it best when she said Bristol comes in and out of character during her dances.
Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas scored a 33, for a total of 57.
Rick Fox and Cheryl Burke - danced the quick step
Helio Castroneves, the winner of season 5, returned to judge Rick Fox and Cheryl Burke as they danced the quick step. Rick and Cheryl's quick step was well choreographed and they synchronized the footwork very well. Rick showed a lot personality. I think it may have been one of his best dances during season 11 of "Dancing with the Stars." At least Carrie Ann agreed.
Rick Fox and Cheryl Burke scored an astounding 37, for a total of 61.
Brandy and Maksim Chmerkovskiy - danced the fox trot
Gilles Marini returned to "Dancing with the Stars" for the 200th episode to judge the fox trot. Brandy was worried about bringing sensuality to the dance, but she did a fine job with characterization. The dance was very fluid and smooth, while the footwork was near perfect. (There was one little bloop.) It was an excellent fox trot for Brandy and Maksim.
Brandy and Maksim Cherkovskiy scored 37, for a total of 64.
Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough - danced the tango
Drew Lachey, season 2 "Dancing with the Stars" champion, was the returning celebrity judge for Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough's tango. Jennifer is fighting her age to remain competitive in "Dancing with the Stars," but she needed a hot performance during week 6.
Jennifer and Derek performed a beautiful tango. The footwork was flawless and the emotion intense. Finally, the judges recognized Jennifer's dance for the outstanding performance that it was.
Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough scored 37, for a total of 64.Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough - 64
A rundown of "Dancing with the Stars, season 11, episode 6 scores
The leading scores of "Dancing with the Stars," season 11, episode 7 belonged to Brandy and Jennifer Grey.
Brandy and Maksim Cherkovskiy - 64
Rick Fox and Cheryl Burke - 61
Kurt Warner and Anna Trebunskaya - 61
Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer - 59
Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas - 57.
Prediction of "Dancing with the Stars," season 11, episode 7 results show
Obviously Brandy and Jennifer Grey will be around following Tuesday night's "DWTS" week 7 results show. I hope, as I do each week, that Kyle will go home, but I expect that this will be Bristol Palin's last week on "Dancing with the Stars," season 11.
