Dancing With the Stars, Season 5: Scary Spice, Jennie Garth Among Cast

Margaret Kerr
The new season of TV shows are starting this month, which means the new round of reality shows will be starting. But this season, it looks like the reality shows are starting to dwindle down. A few are still holding strong, such as Dancing With the Stars, heading into it's 5th season and looking more interesting than ever.

The celebrities and their partners were announced for this new season, and it looks to be a mix of old and young celebrities paired off with new and returning dancers. Our celebrities range from Las Vegas entertainers to IndyCar drivers and running the gamut in between. Actors, singers, boxers, and super models band together for a fun filled season of dancing. So who are we going to be watching and rooting for this season?

The Women:
We start off with Spice Girl; Melanie Brown, better known as Scary Spice. The member of the 90's pop super group has been busy lately, not only will she be dancing with Maksim Chmerkovskiy, but in December, the Spice girls will reunite for another tour. Then we have the former Beverly Hills 90210 actress Jennie Garth. Garth, while being best known for her role on 90210, has been a busy woman as well, starring in several movies and most recently spent four seasons on the show What I Like About You. Garth will be paired off with Derek Hough for his first season. Also joining the cast is super model Josie Maran. Maran has graced the pages of Sports Illustrated, Glamour starred in countless makeup and clothing commercials. Now she will be gracing the dance floor with Alec Mazo for this seasons dancing.

Disney's The Cheetah Girls star Sabrina Bryan is joining this season's cast. The 22 year old Bryan will be paired off with Mark Ballas for his first season, but dancing shouldn't be much of a challenge for her. Bryan has been part of an all girl's song-and-dance troupe since 2003, starring in hit television shows and movies, along with having two chart topping albums. On the other end of the spectrum, we have aging entertainer Marie Osmond. This little bit country and little bit rock and roller 47 year old teams up with Jonathan Roberts to show the world if she can be more than a little bit dancer. Rounding out the women, we have the 57-year-old actress Jane Seymour. The star of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman will be gracing the dance floor with Tony Dovolani and taking a break from acting, writing and advocating for underprivileged or abused children.

The Men:
The elder statesman of Las Vegas, 65-year-old entertainer Wayne Newton dances his way into season five with Cheryl Burke. After four decades on a Las Vegas stage, Newton will be putting down the mic and polishing up his dancing shoes, but can he bring it like he does every night he picks up the mic? Wheeling into the competition is IndyCar racer Helio Castroneves. The man who makes his living behind the wheel of a car will be pairing with Juliana Hough to attempt to show the world that racers really are light on their feet. We've seen from past experience, however, that professional boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. stands a good chance of doing well. Paired with Karina Smirnoff, Mayweather can show the world that male boxers can be light on their feet on the dance floor too.

We also have billionaire entrepreneur and star of The Benefactor Mark Cuban dancing into the competition with his partner, Kym Johnson. Cuban will be proving that, like his Dallas Mavericks, he's got game on the floor. Only his floor is a dance floor. Dancing into the competition, we also have soap star Cameron Mathison. After 18 years dancing around problems on All My Children, Mathison is going to take his turn around the dance floor with Edyta Sliwinska. Will our dancing soap star be the one who makes it to the end or will super model Albert Reed and his partner, Anna Trebunskaya. After walking the runways in Abercrombie can this model, actor, musician and artist add one more talent to his repertoire Only time will tell.

The Professionals:
Returning to dance with the celebrities are Cheryl Burke, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Tony Dovolani, Juliana Hough, Kym Johnson, Alec Mazo, Jonathan Roberts, Edyta Sliwinska, Karina Smirnoff, and Anna Trebunskaya. Joining the professionals this season are Mark Ballas and Derek Hough to round out the field. With two wins under her belt, can Cheryl Burke bring out Wayne Newton's dance moves and come back for another win or will Juliana Hough be able to slow Helio Castroneves down enough to win a second season. Newcomer or veteran, male or female, only time and America will tell which of our professionals can make a dancer out of our celebrities.

The Judges:
At least there are no changes at the judging table. Carrie Ann Inaba, the proverbial nice girl will be back at the table with Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli. Will the two men still fight about who is right or who is wrong, or will they actually get along this season. No one will ever know until the night of the show.

The Hosts:
While Tom Bergeron returns for the season to host again, his wing-woman Samantha Harris will be noticeably absent after the first few weeks of the show. She will be noticeably pregnant for the first few weeks with the birth of coming up quickly. She hopes to only be gone a short time, but no replacement has been decided upon yet.

The coming season of Dancing With The Stars is looking promising, but will it live up to the hype that it has gained over the last few seasons with Joey Fatone, Apolo Anton Ohno, Mario Lopez and Laila Ali's fabulous showings on the dance floor. You will have to tune in to ABC on September 24 to find out, just like the rest of us. Just remember, it's America's votes and opinions that count the most.
