"Dancing with the Stars" Season 9 Lineup: All Eyes on Joanna Krupa and Kathy Ireland

Joanna Krupa and Kathy Ireland Sure Look Good in Bikinis, but Can They Dance?

Joanna Krupa and Kathy Ireland are on ABC's "Dancing With The Stars" Season 9 (2009) lineup. That alone would entice me to watch the hit reality show. If nobody else but Joanna Krupa and Kathy Ireland were to appear on "Dancing With The Stars" in Season 9's lineup, I would be fine with the decision. Call me shallow, but those "stars" are hot. Sexy hot. Joanna Krupa, one of the hottest models working today, and Kathy Ireland, hot ex-model and successful home furnishings designer, are simply beautiful people. Watching them dance -- or learn to dance -- will be a treat for the eyes.

I already said I was shallow...

Because, let's face it, people watch "Dancing With The Stars" not only to see some of their favorite performers, but also to see them perform in those near-nothing outfits. And although the guys are generally fairly nice looking (handsome even), they are mostly window-dressing compared to the female stars that are asked to dance on "Dancing With The Stars." And that includes the beautiful professional dancers that perform on the show. Just the thought of seeing Kathy Ireland and Joanna Krupa in something near-nothing and slinky makes me want to invest in TiVo.

"Dancing With The Stars" Season 9 will be no different. The entire cast is made up of beautiful women (all of them, not just supermodels Kathy Ireland and Joanna Krupa) and fairly handsome guys. But the guys will not be wearing next to nothing. Nor will the audience at home (and live during the show) will be watching to see if anything shifts, slides, or falls off of the guys while they perform some neck-breaker hip movement.

"Dancing With The Stars" is superficial entertainment at its very best. Nothing of substance; nothing to accomplish; just a nice, glitzy forum for "stars" to do what they do best -- perform and get noticed. Oh, they "win" and get a "prize" and "title," but those things are secondary to what is truly the only reason for the show -- winning the attention of the American public, both for the show and its producers and for those who have agreed to perform on the show.

And they've managed to do a great job of doing just that for the past eight incarnations of "Dancing With The Stars."

"Dancing With The Stars" Season 9's lineup was announced Monday morning on ABC's "Good Morning America." Along with the usual crowd of has beens (older actors and singers) and wannabes (reality show celebrities and famous for being famous people) and athletes (professional and Olympic -- or both), "Dancing With The Stars" landed a pretty nice array for their ninth season. Not only did they coax two supermodels on the show, but they also roped in singer Donnie Osmond, whose sister, Marie, has already performed on the show. Three other singers have joined this season's cast: R & B singer Mya, R & B artist Macy Gray, and pop singer/heartthrob Aaron Carter.

There are four athletes in the group as well. Former Dallas Cowboys standout Michael Irvin will join U. S. Olympic swimmer Natalie Coughlin as well as Louie Vito, champion snowboarder, in the 2009 cast. Ultimate Fighting Championship fighter Chuck Liddell will also join the cast.

Three actors join in the dancing. Debi Mazar, Ashley Hamilton (who is also a comedian and son of actor and former "DWTS" contestant George Hamilton), and Melissa Joan Hart.

Rounding out the 16 "Stars" are Kelly Osbourne, singer and reality show star (daughter of the legendary Ozzy Osbourne); Mark Dacascos, star of the reality show "Iron Chef"; and Tom Delay, former House of Representative Majority Leader.

So who will win? Who knows? This writer will be cheering on Michael Irvin (Dallas Cowboys -- need one say more?), Joanna Krupa (beautiful swimsuit model -- need I say more?), and Kathy Ireland (beautiful supermodel -- see Joanna Krupa's parenthetical). The one thing one does not have to worry about on "Dancing With The Stars" is true competition. Sure, it is all bragging rights jockeying with competitive natures and being in the limelight for several weeks, but the competition is not serious or life-altering like it is on "American Idol", "So You Think You Can Dance", "Survivor", or "The Amazing Race," where winning can change one's life. Joanna Krupa will still be a hot, beautiful supermodel when Season 9 is done, no matter if she wins or not. Kathy Ireland will continue to do charity work and design dinnerware if she finishes first or sixteenth in this season's lineup.

"Dancing With The Stars" is about fun. Good old superficial fun. The stars get publicity and face time. The audience gets entertained. And although it involves a bit of work on the part of the show's producers, dancers, and stars, considering the great ratings the show has received in the past (and there is really no sign of a decrease in interest), it truly is a win-win-win situation for all concerned. How many other reality shows can actually say that?
