Dancing with the Stars Style Dances for Weddings

Christine Bude Nyholm
There is a new trend developing for wedding receptions, specifically for the first wedding dance. Traditionally the wedding dance occurs when the bride and groom do a slow two step to some sappy, romantic music. Instead of that, many couples are opting for an energetic "Dancing With the Stars" style routine, performing for their guests.

This new trend has been reported by the Wall Street Journal and ABC News.

The first dance for a newly married couple is a special moment at the wedding reception. Traditionally the first dance has been done to a dreamy, romantic slow pace, where newlyweds cling to each other and look into each others eyes while sharing their first dance as a married couple.

There is a new trend in wedding dances now. Couples are throwing aside the shuffling two step in order to do a performance style routine, similar to the dancers of 'Dancing With The Stars'.

Couples choose any number of non-traditional dance styles as their first dance. Some get their whole wedding party involved, with production numbers such as Michael Jackson's "Thriller". Many couples choose to showcase their dancing style in a manner similar to "Dancing With the Stars' with a rumba, tango, salsa or waltz.

Putting on a dance show for the guests requires confidence, finesse and practice.

The traditional wedding dances have often involved a couple "winging it". A boring two step with two people shuffling around on the floor is just not that interesting to watch, unless you are the parents of the bride and groom.

This new trend puts some pizazz into the wedding reception. Couples who want to put a production type number on for their guests would be well advised to take dancing lessons, so they can get good choreography and develop confidence with their style. A series of dance lessons may take several weeks, which is an excellent way for the couple to spend time together in a wholesome environment, while learning a new skill that they can enjoy for a lifetime.

Couples that learn to dance stylishly with each other enjoy great dancing dates in the process of learning, and can continue to develop and enjoy their dancing skills for years to come.

Professional dance studios offer lessons specifically tailored for the special first wedding dance. A Google search revealed that there are numerous dance studios that offer ballroom dancing and lessons for the "first wedding dance". The lessons may last for a few weeks of several weeks.

Dance productions, that involve the entire wedding party, will require rehearsals and practice with the whole group. If the wedding party is willing to make this commitment, this seems like an enjoyable get together as well as a chance to burn off calories.

In addition to taking dance lessons, the wedding couple can benefit by watching "Dancing With the Stars" or one of the ballroom dancing shows that are on television. Watching other dancers can give an idea of what looks good and what does not.

Watching ballroom dancing before starting lessons will give the couple a head start on their lessons, so they aren't starting from scratch. Couples can develop an idea of what the styles of dance are and what they like before investing in lessons.

A ballroom dancing teacher will give the couple choreography and teach them how to move and advise them on posture, timing and a number of other things. A teacher can also correct any bad habits that the dancers are not aware of. For couples who want to perform a showy "First dance", dance lessons are very important.

Couples can benefit in many ways from taking the dance lessons for their first dance. They get to spend quality time together learning a new skill. The first dance can be romantic and beautifully done. The guests will be thrilled to see such an exciting performance from the newly married couple.
