Among those who will be learning the two-step and the jitterbug: Tom DeLay. Donny Osmond--following in the footsteps of Marie; Kelly Osbourne, daughter of Ozzy, wearing funky short blonde hair in the ABC publicity photo; and model Kathy Ireland. Is it just me, or do the gorgeous model-types usually fall short on the dance floor? Maybe Kathy will break the mold.

Update 3.9.09 - Dancing with the Stars is making headlines before the celebrities even hit the dance floor. In the latest pre-show twist, People.com and other news outlets are reporting that a couple of contestants have pulled out of the new season. And- the Bachelor's Melissa Rycroft will step in, along with Girl Next Door Holly Madison. People.com says they've had only days to rehearse. We'll see how it goes!
-----
In the meantime - my picks for Dancing With the Stars still would be good contestants. Here's a review of some of the people who should have gotten a chance to rhumba and foxtrot. This list was written in August, 2008, but is still applicable today.. some of them really need the job...
Alicia Sacramone. The Olympic Gymnast stumbled in Beijing, but people love her personality and she may need something to boost her confidence. Dancing With The Stars may be the perfect fit. (Well, they did get her teammate, Johnson.)
Also, now that Michael Phelps has won a bunch of gold medals, perhaps he would like to take a break from the pool and compete in the new season of Dancing With The Stars. With those long arms and upper body, Phelps would probably be able to lift his partner higher than anyone else. (Since he's now involved in a bong scandal, I guess 'higher' is an appropriate word choice! )
Both would be able to fill the dancing shoes of Dancing With The Stars Champ, and Olympic gold medal figure skater, Kristi Yamaguchi.
Of course, every season of Dancing With The Stars includes performers who are used to being on stage--
Jennifer Lopez would be a fine choice, if she can find a babysitter.
Cher would also be great in the new season. But she might have to tone down her outfits for Dancing With The Stars.
Musician Chris Brown could 'Run It' right to the finals. A viewer on a Chris Brown website describes him as "Sexiilicious" so, you know he'll fit right in. (He was recently arrested.)
And one of the Jonas Brothers would be sure to bring lots of viewers to the new season of Dancing With The Stars. It doesn't matter which one, any of the Jonas Brothers would do.
Now, for the Fish out of Water category. There's always someone on Dancing With The Stars who (how shall I put it delicately) you wouldn't expect to see there.
You never know if these people will be fish or swans, but here goes.
Hillary Rodham Clinton. Now that she's not running for president, I'm sure she's still busy being a Senator. But Dancing With The Stars will probably take less time than the Democratic Primary. (Being Secretary of State might keep her a little busy.)
Sherri Sheperd. The co-host of The View has made no secret of her desire to appear on Dancing With The Stars. How could they not ask her?
Maybe next time.

Post a CommentI'd love to see Sacramone, actually. She's not a real top-tier celeb. Phelps would be amazing and would be a ratings ringer, but I don't think he'd do it... at least not for another 10 years or whenever Phelps-mania dies down and he wants a career re-vamp. Good job!
I'm going to try to catch this season!
Great read! I don't follow the series each season, but I do watch it once in a while :)
Great article. I'm so excited for the new season!
I really got a kick out of your humor in this one and the potential dance contenders :) Very enjoyable!

Well...after the Saddleback interview and Obama getting seriously bested by the white haired dude..he should drop out the race and dance with Hillary ;-) Both of them should be a (tap) shoe in..after all the experience dancing around the issues ;-)
