Dangerous Drug Maker of Meow Meow Party Drug Still Producing
What Do You Get when You Add an Unemployed Construction Worker with a Chemistry-savvy Friend?
Construction worker making your Meow Meow for you
Meow Meow, also known as mephedrone, was the initial drug David Llewellyn, an unemployed construction worker, sought to recreate when he decided to start his new job as a drug maker and dealer, according to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
David and a chemistry-savvy partner decided to take their love of drugs to the next level; they decided to make them and sell them. But spending years behind federal bars wasn't David Llewellyn's cup of tea, so he compromised: Llewellyn made legal drugs and labeled them "not for human consumption."
Llewellyn then proceeded to sell them to people who would use them for human consumption anyway, instead of as the "pond cleaner," "bath salts," or "plant food" labels he gave them.
David Llewellyn doesn't live in America, as I'm sure you've already guessed. Otherwise he would already have an up close and personal relationship with the DEA, most likely.
Llewellyn and his partner live in the EU, instead, and actually have moved around a bit, with their lab facilities being what they term "underground."
Meow Meow drug maker moves around
One of David's "drug labs" is located in Holland, according to the WSJ. And he just opened a new one in Scotland, where he had to buy equipment he needed from a welder who could custom make it because commercial suppliers "ask too many questions."
A production lab located in the Netherlands may be the next change David Llewellyn and his eight employees experience, since even a drug-friendly place like the Netherlands may soon outlaw certain equipment without a professional license. Needless to say, David doesn't have any such license.
According to the WSJ, Belgium authorities have already threatened to sock it to the unqualified drug creator using environmental laws to close him down for good, effectively raiding his warehouse in their country and seizing the chemicals stored there.
But David seems undaunted by the prospect, continuing to travel and promote his "products" as he keeps on making them. This in spite of the fact that people are dying from Mephedrone use and many EU nations have already banned the drug (or are in the process of doing so.)
Llewellyn has stopped making Meow Meow or Mephedrone since the ban (he's making other stuff), but he discounts that any deaths came about from its use by others.
David cites his own on-air snorting of a half gram of the Meow Meow party drug for an evening news program, which appeared on Belgium television, as his evidence that the drug is "safe," as it didn't killhim.
Meow Meow is being compared to ecstasy and cocaine
Other names for Mephedrone besides Meow Meow include "bubble" and "neodove." The drug, according to Yahoo Health, cost between 10 to 15 euros per gram and is sold in capsule, powder and tablet forms.
"Mephedrone is a dangerous drug. I urge governments to move fast to control and criminalize it," the EU Justice Commissioner Viviane Reding said.
But David Llewellyn feels differently about Mephedrone (Meow Meow) and the other drugs he manufactures, stating that he has been running his own safety testing methods, and that he has confidence that they work. So what are these safety measures?
According to Llewellyn, he and several of his coworkers gather in a room, ingest a new product "almost to overdose levels" and wait to see what happens as their designated "straight person" observes the doped up crew, who sit with pen and pad in hand, listening to music.
