Don't trust people you shouldn't. Partying tends to make you drop your guard when meeting new people. You become more open to strangers. You should be aware of a friendly one compared to a threatening one. That's a deadly mix, alcohol and a carefree state of mind, here are some rules for staying safe.
Make a plan for the evening while that group is sober. Talk about what to do if someone doesn't want to leave. Make a code word for when someone is bothering you or you don't feel safe. Don't allow a guy to buy you or your friends too many drinks. Never leave someone alone at a party or bar. Make her come with you or even invite your companion to join the group. If he's a threat, he'll probably refuse and say no. Here are examples of bad things that could happen:
A 22 ear old college student went bar hopping on Friday night with some friends. She left them around 11:30. She was seen for the last time early that Saturday morning walking downtown with some guy. She was found sixteen days later 10 miles from town, dead. The cause of death was not revealed, but the case is treated as a homicide. The suspect is still at large.
A 18 year old woman went out with a friend one night drinking and dancing. They happened to get separated during the night at a car impound. Her friend's car had been towed away. The friend was so drink she passed out and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The 18 year old woman wandered off because she was afraid of being arrested for under age drinking. It was now 5a.m., she called her friend for the last time. She told her that she was lost but met a nice guy who would show her the way home. Her body was found strangled two days later. The guy and his girlfriend was later arrested and charged with her murder.
On Halloween night last year, a 20 year old woman was walking alone from a party around 12:45 a.m. She was kidnapped by four men. Two of the men sexually assaulted her. Though she survived, no suspects were arrested. Know the risks so that you do not become a victim.
