Dangers Associated with Bathing in Chlorine

Sarah Rachel
Most cities across the United States pump large amounts of chlorine in the water supply. We are then exposed to chlorine each time we take a shower or bath, and people who drink tap water ingest it, (yet another reason why you shouldn't drink tap water.) Your skin absorbs chlorine from showering, and when you a take a long hot shower it vaporizes, and you breathe it in. This can cause inflammation to the mucous membranes, itchy eyes and irritation to the lungs. Chlorine inhalation is suspected to be one of the causes of childhood asthma and bronchitis.

While chlorine is effective at killing parasites and other organisms, which has helped public health, it also has a negative impact on our health. Chlorine is a known carcinogen, which means that it is known to cause cancer. Chlorine is so strong that it can kill microscopic living things, but it is also strong enough to kill us when we are exposed over a prolonged period of time. Chlorine can also be very drying to the skin, and cause a person to age much faster. The chemicals are not healthy for bathing or for human consumption.

However, you can have the best of both worlds, and allow chlorine to kill the parasites in our water systems, but change it to pure water once it reaches your home. You can do this by investing in a water system.

Various types of water systems

Reverse Osmosis

This type of water system is very well known, and it is one of the most popular methods to filter water. It works by drawing the water through a very fine membrane. Pressure is applied which works to reverse the osmotic process. This method of filtration is very slow and takes time, but it works very well.

Magnetic Systems

My in-laws invested in a magnetic system to filter their water. It is very effective, and the water is clean and free of any contaminants, yet I don't like the taste because many of the minerals are still left in the water.

UV Radiation Systems

These systems use light to irradiate water through glass, which kills all living organism, but not all contaminants. This method is the most effective when it's combined with another system.

If you can't afford a water system to remove the chlorine and other toxins from the water, you can spend just a small amount of money on a shower head with a chlorine filter built right in. You can purchase these at home depot, or on line at: www.inspiredliving.com
